These release notes describe the Windows security updates, hotfixes, HPE Software components, and Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) components for HPE StoreEasy Storage SR 2016.01.4 service release. This service release includes the following systems running Windows Storage Server 2012:

Starting with SR 2015.10.4, the installation of the service release is through a new Update Tool interface. This tool enables you to install service releases on a single Windows 2012 system. The Update Tool can also be used as a coordinator to update a two-node Windows 2012 R2 cluster. For information on installing updates using the Update Tool, see Installation instructions.

To determine if you must install the service release, you must verify the HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is running on the HPE StoreEasy Storage. To determine the HPE System Installation and Recovery version, click Server Manager → Tools → HPE StoreEasy and click Manage Storage Pools.
This service release version is applicable for HPE StoreEasy products listed in the Product models section.
An HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is less than the version listed in the Prerequisites section indicates that you are running an older version of the HPE StoreEasy Storage software. HPE recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.
To determine the current service release version for StoreEasy 3000 and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller and File Controller Storages:

This section provides instructions on how to install updates using the Update Tool. For more information on using the Update Tool, click Help in the Update Tool wizard. For information on the installation prerequisites, see “Prerequisites for the Update Tool”.

Once you install the Update Tool, the Update Tool icon is displayed on the desktop. The Update Tool also creates SMB shares called Root and Script.
The Root share is created only if there is a minimum 5GB of free space in the system.
The Script share contains the PostUpdateScript.ps1 PowerShell script that monitors the SR installation progress.
Launch the Update Tool by double-clicking the Update Tool icon on the desktop.
Select Standalone on the mode selection screen and click Next.
The System Configuration Summary screen appears on which you can view the selected mode, name of the system, path of the update package, and a list of components to be installed.
Click Install.
The progress and status of each task is displayed.
Click Open Log to view the HPIM logs of the standalone system or click Close to close the Update Tool.
The Update Tool installed on a system running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 can also be used as a coordinator to update the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 cluster. To use the Update Tool as a coordinator:
Launch the Update Tool by double-clicking the Update Tool icon on the desktop.
The available installation modes are displayed.
Select Coordinator on the mode selection screen and click Next.
Enter the cluster name, domain username, password and click Next.
NOTE: The cluster that you want to update must be a StoreEasy cluster installed with Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2. | |

If any component in the service release package requires a reboot, a warning message is displayed when you click Close. You can either proceed with the system restart or restart the system later to apply the updates. After installing the updates, you can uninstall the Update Tool from Control Panel.
This Service Release includes updates and security patches available on Windows update from September 2015 to December 2015.
Occasionally, while installing updates in the Coordinator mode, the update fails.
Perform the following steps:
Right-click the Update Tool icon on the desktop and click Properties.
The Update Tool Properties window is displayed.
Click Shortcut and enter %WINDIR% in Start in.
Click Apply and then click OK.
The service release GUI does not display the text for hotfixes, Windows updates, and security updates that are available on the Microsoft website. Only generic messages are displayed for these updates.
Pool Manager does not support conversion of spare drives to data drives.
Go to HP Smart Storage Administrator (HP SSA) and remove the spare drive from the pool and assign it as a data drive.
