The following enhancements are part of SR 2016.01.5:
The Cluster-Aware Updating feature enables you to update clustered servers with up to eight nodes.
A progress bar is added to the Update Tool. This bar enables you to view the installation progress of the update being installed by the tool.
The following fixes are included in SR 2016.01.5:
On clustered systems, the Storage → Overview page on the System Dashboard displays all volumes on the X-axis of the graph. The deduplication rate that was unavailable due to the absence of volumes is now displayed.
The Notification System now supports email addresses that contain domain and subdomain, for example, user@host.subdomain.domain.
The access permission issue with the REST service that prevented Pool Manager and System Dashboard from launching is fixed.
To determine if you must install the service release, you must verify the HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is running on the StoreEasy Storage. To determine the HPE System Installation and Recovery version, click Server Manager → Tools → HPE StoreEasy and click Manage Storage Pools.
This service release version is applicable for HPE StoreEasy products listed in the Product models section.
An HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is less than the version listed in the Description section indicates that you are running an older version of the HPE StoreEasy Storage software. HPE recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.
To determine the current service release version for StoreEasy 3000 and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller:
Log in to the server blade.
Open a command window.
Enter the following registry command and verify the service release version in the output:
C:\> reg query HKLM\Software\Hewlett-Packard\StorageServer
A service release that is less than the version listed in the output indicates you are running an older version of the StoreEasy software. HPE recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.
TIP: You can also use the Pool Manager or System Dashboard to determine the current version of the service release. Pool Manager is available on HPE StoreEasy 1000 and 5000 Storages, and System Dashboard is available on HPE StoreEasy 1000, 3000, and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller.
This section provides instructions on how to install updates using the Update Tool. For more information on using the Update Tool, click Help in the Update Tool wizard. For information on the installation prerequisites, see “Prerequisites for using the Update Tool in the Cluster mode”.
IMPORTANT:
| |
Once you install the Update Tool, the Update Tool icon is displayed on the desktop. The Update Tool also creates SMB shares called Root and Script.
The Root share is created only if there is a minimum 5GB of free space in the system.
The Script share contains the PostUpdateScript.ps1 PowerShell script that monitors the SR installation progress.
Launch the Update Tool by double-clicking the Update Tool icon on the desktop.
The available installation modes are displayed.
Select Standalone on the mode selection screen and click Next.
The System Configuration Summary screen appears on which you can view the selected mode, name of the system, path of the update package, and a list of components to be installed.
Click Install.
The progress and status of each task is displayed.
Click Open Log to view the HPIM logs of the standalone system or click Close to close the Update Tool.
Launch the Update Tool by double-clicking the Update Tool icon on the desktop.
The available installation modes are displayed.
Select Cluster or Coordinator and click Next.
NOTE: For clusters with more than two nodes, select the Standalone mode after launching the Update Tool and then run the tool on each node of the cluster.
Enter the domain username and password and click Next.
NOTE: The cluster name is displayed by default only if you select Cluster on the mode selection screen.
The System Configuration Summary screen appears on which you can view the selected mode, name of the system, path of the update package, and a list of components to be installed.
Click Install.
The progress and status of each task is displayed.
Click Open Log to view the HPIM log of the selected node or click Close to close the Update Tool.
NOTE:
| |
If any component in the service release package requires a reboot, a warning message is displayed when you click Close. You can either proceed with the system restart or restart the system later to apply the updates. After installing the updates, you can uninstall the Update Tool from Control Panel.
This Service Release includes updates and security patches available on Windows update from September 2015 to December 2015.
While specifying the value for a parameter in the Notification System, if no unit is specified, the default unit is considered as byte. For example, for the Free Space parameter, if you enter the value as 100 without specifying the unit, such as GB, the default value is considered as 100 bytes.
There is no workaround for this issue.
The following message is displayed while installing
updates in the Cluster or Coordinator mode using the Update
Tool:
The updating run has
failed or has been cancelled.
Perform the following steps:
Go to Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Firewall.
Click Allow a program through Windows Firewall.
Verify that the following programs are allowed through Windows Firewall:
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
Windows Remote Management
Windows Remote Management (Compatibility)
NOTE: You must perform this step for the remote coordinator system and for all nodes of the cluster that you are updating in the Cluster or Coordinator mode.
Run the Enable-PSRemoting PowerShell command on the remote coordinator system and on all nodes of the cluster being updated.
For more information, see the following Microsoft TechNet articles:
Occasionally, while installing updates in the Coordinator mode, the update fails.
Perform the following steps:
Right-click the Update Tool icon on the desktop and click Properties.
The Update Tool Properties window is displayed.
Click Shortcut and then enter %WINDIR% in Start in.
Click Apply and then click OK.
The service release GUI does not display the text for hotfixes, Windows updates, and security updates that are available on the Microsoft website. Only generic messages are displayed for these updates.
There is no workaround for this issue.
Pool Manager does not support conversion of spare drives to data drives.
Go to HP Smart Storage Administrator (HP SSA) and remove the spare drive from the pool and assign it as a data drive.
