Determining the current version

To determine if you must install the service release, you must verify the HP System Installation and Recovery version that is running on the HP StoreEasy Storage. To determine the HP System Installation and Recovery version, click Server Manager → Tools → HP StoreEasy and click Manage Storage Pools.

This service release version is applicable for HP StoreEasy products listed in the Product models section.

An HP System Installation and Recovery version that is less than the version listed in the Description section indicates that you are running an older version of the HP StoreEasy Storage software. HP recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.

To determine the current service release version for HP StoreEasy 3000 and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller:

  1. Log in to the server blade.

  2. Open a command window.

  3. Enter the following registry command and verify the service release version in the output:

    C:\> reg query HKLM\Software\Hewlett-Packard\StorageServer

A service release that is less than the version listed in the output indicates you are running an older version of the StoreEasy software. HP recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.

TIP: You can also use the Pool Manager or System Dashboard to determine the current version of the service release. Pool Manager is available on HP StoreEasy 1000 and 5000 Storages, and System Dashboard is available on HP StoreEasy 1000, 3000, and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller.

Installation instructions

Instructions for installing the storage system are provided in the Quick Start Guide of your product.

Before installing the service release, make sure that the system drive on which you install the service release has a minimum 5 GB of available space to accommodate the upgrade. The specific amount of disk space required depends on the components that you select for installation.

NOTE:

  • You must be logged in as the local administrator to install the service release.

  • On systems that have no Internet access, the service release installer may pause for up to five minutes while displaying the message, Please wait while we scan your system for applicable software. This is due to PowerShell scripts, signed by HP, that are being used to scan for software to be updated. With no Internet access, certificate revocation lists cannot be checked, but there is a delay before the check fails and allows the script to continue. Wait for the scan to complete and then the service release installation will continue.

  1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support.

  2. Select Drivers & Downloads.

  3. Enter your product name or model number (for example, HP StoreEasy 1000 Storage, HP StoreEasy 3000 Storage, HP StoreEasy 5000 Storage, or HP 3PAR StoreServ File Controller v2) in Enter a product name or number and click Go.

  4. Select your model, select the operating system, and then select the service release.

  5. Download the Service Release package to a temporary folder on your system.

  6. Run the Service Release package on the StoreEasy system and follow the prompts on the service release installation window. Run the service release installer until the required components are installed.

  7. Accept the EULA (End-User License Agreement).

NOTE: The EULA appears twice before the installation starts. Therefore, you must accept the EULA twice for the installation to start.

  8. You may choose to unselect some components. However, HP strongly recommends that all components be installed.

  9. Click Install.

  10. After installing the selected components, reboot the system.

IMPORTANT: Some updates depend on other updates being installed first. Therefore, it is necessary to run the service release, reboot the system, and then run the service release a second time.

Security updates

This Service Release includes updates and security patches available on Windows update from December 2014 to March 2015.

Workarounds

The service release GUI does not display the text for Hotfixes, Windows updates, and Security updates that are available on the Microsoft website. Only generic messages are displayed for these updates.

There is no workaround for this issue.
