To determine if you must install the service release, you must verify the HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is running on the StoreEasy Storage. To determine the HPE System Installation and Recovery version, click Server Manager → Tools → HPE StoreEasy and click Manage Storage Pools.
An HPE System Installation and Recovery version that is less than the version listed in the Description section indicates that you are running an older version of the HPE StoreEasy Storage software. HPE recommends that you upgrade to the latest version.
To determine the current service release version for StoreEasy 3000 and 3PAR StoreServ File Controller:

This section provides instructions on how to install updates using the Update Tool. For more information on using the Update Tool, click Help in the Update Tool wizard. For information on the installation prerequisites, see “Prerequisites for using the Update Tool with Clustered Systems”.
IMPORTANT:
| |
Once you install the Update Tool, the Update Tool icon is displayed on the desktop. The Update Tool also creates SMB shares called Root and Script.
The Root share is created only if there is a minimum 5GB of free space in the system.
The Script share contains the PostUpdateScript.ps1 PowerShell script that monitors the SR installation progress.
Double-click the Update Tool icon on the desktop to launch the tool. The available modes to install the updates appear.
Standalone mode, the system navigates to the Update Tool Summary page.
Cluster mode or Co-ordinator mode, the system navigates to the Update Tool Input page.
On the Update Tool Input page, enter the required settings and click Next. The Update Tool Summary page appears.
Click Install. The installation starts and the tool navigates to the Update Tool Result page, which provides the status of the installation.
NOTE: For Standalone mode, you cannot cancel the installation after the installation starts.
Click Open Log to view the log files that the system generates during the update installation.
NOTE: For a cluster system, you must select individual nodes and then click Open Log to view the logs for that particular node.
The update will complete installation after you reboot the system.
If no component in the SR package requires reboot, the application closes.
Launch the Update Tool by double-clicking the Update Tool icon on the desktop.
Select Cluster or Coordinator and click Next.
NOTE: For clusters with more than two nodes, select the Standalone mode after launching the Update Tool and then run the tool on each node of the cluster.
Enter the domain username and password and click Next.
NOTE: The cluster name is displayed by default only if you select Cluster on the mode selection screen.
The System Configuration Summary screen appears on which you can view the selected mode, name of the system, path of the update package, and a list of components to be installed.
Click Open Log to view the HPIM log of the selected node or click Close to close the Update Tool.
If any component in the service release package requires a reboot, a warning message is displayed when you click Close. You can either proceed with the system restart or restart the system later to apply the updates. After installing the updates, you can uninstall the Update Tool from Control Panel.
This Service Release includes updates and security patches available on Windows update from February 2017.
Localized help is not installed on Japanese and Chinese system.
Workaround: Install the help manually.
Uninstall the NAS online help from Control Panel.
Delete the nashelp folder from C:\Program Files\HPE
Install nashelp from C:\nas\Components\Help\nashelp.exe
Once the installation is completed, the progress of Update Tool does not reach 100% and the current task and progress bar are not shown at the same time.
The WSS2016 Update Tool contains 2 SRs as there is one huge sized hotfix. Therefore, 50% progress is on first SR and 50% progress is on the second SR. The second SR has very less components, therefore, the progress bar will reach 100% and success state quickly. Hence, this behaviour is expected.
When you click on the links from dashboard, Windows server manager, configure cluster and configure networking are not launched.
Workaround: Double-click the batch files Enable_Dashboard_Links.bat available at C:\Program Files\HPE\StoreEasy DashBoard\Enable_Dashboard_Links.bat to set the registry keys.
Storage discovery failure in dashboard.
Workaround: Restart service or system.
Cluster goes down after SR installation.
Workaround: Start the Cluster Service with the Start-ClusterNode PowerShell cmdlet or reboot the node.
The following message is displayed while installing updates in the Cluster or Coordinator mode using the Update Tool: The updating run has failed or has been cancelled.
Go to Control Panel → System and Security → Windows Firewall.
Verify that the following programs are allowed through Windows Firewall:
Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
Windows Remote Management
Windows Remote Management (Compatibility)
NOTE: You must perform this step for the remote coordinator system and for all nodes of the cluster that you are updating in the Cluster or Coordinator mode.
Run the Enable-PSRemoting PowerShell command on the remote coordinator system and on all nodes of the cluster being updated.
For more information, see the following Microsoft TechNet articles:
Occasionally, while installing updates in the Coordinator mode, the update fails.
The service release GUI does not display the text for hotfixes, Windows updates, and security updates that are available on the Microsoft website. Only generic messages are displayed for these updates.
Pool Manager does not support conversion of spare drives to data drives.
Go to HP Smart Storage Administrator (HP SSA) and remove the spare drive from the pool and assign it as a data drive.
