Propogating driver updates across kernels ------------------------------------------- Typically, drivers installed on the base kernel can be carried forward to subsequent errata updates or OS builds. For example, if a driver is installed on RHEL6u7 Snapshot1, it can be carried forward to Snapshot2, Snapshot3 and so on. This can be done by choosing to update the existing OS installation and not completely re-installing over the existing Snapshot1 setup. Choose the option to "Upgrade existing installation" during the OS install process. kISO based installations have been setup to accept driver RPMs built on the base kernel that the kISO assists in getting installed. For example, the SLES11 SP3 driver will install just fine on the SLES11 SP3 errata kISO and sets up appropriate kernel module linkages for the errata kernel. It is important to note that driver updates have not been proven to work across minor updates. It is advisable to use drivers specific to a given minor update or service pack. For example, it is not advisable to use a RHEL6u6 driver on RHEL6u7.
