  1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support.

  2. Select Drivers & Downloads.

  3. Enter your product (for example, HP StoreEasy 1000 Storage, HP StoreEasy 3000 Storage, or HP 3PAR StoreServ File Controller v2) in Enter a product name or number and click Go.

  4. Select your model, select the operating system, and then select the service release.

  5. Copy SrPackage2014.09.exe to a temporary folder on your system.

  6. Run SrPackage2014.09.exe on the server and follow the prompts on the service release installation window. Run the service release installer until the required components are installed.

  7. Accept the EULA (End-User License Agreement).

  8. Verify that all components are selected for installation. If any of the components are not selected, then select those components before starting the installation.

  9. Click Install.

  10. After installing all selected components, reboot the system.

  11. After the reboot, make sure that the following components are installed/upgraded in the system:

    • HP StoreEasy Dashboard

    • HP StoreEasy Dashboard Installer

    • HP StoreEasy Data Service

    • HP Management Web Services

    • HP NAS Online Help

    • HP ServerManager Extension

    • Microsoft Windows updates listed in Security updates

  12. For HP StoreEasy 3000 Storage System and HP 3PAR File Controller v2 run the Update-StorageProviderCache -DiscoveryLevel Full –PassThru command on an elevated PowerShell command prompt on all nodes of the cluster to update the latest storage related information in the cache.

IMPORTANT: Some updates depend on other updates being installed first. Therefore, it is necessary to run the service release, reboot, and then run the service release a second time.

NOTE:

  • For HP StoreEasy 3000 Storage and HP 3PAR File Controllers, SMI-S registration for shared storage system must be completed to get storage related information on the HP System Dashboard. SMI-S registration can be performed using ICT (Initial Configuration Task) or by running the following commands:

Register-SmisProvider –ConnectionUri https://<name or IP address of provider>:598x

For SMI-S registration, use port number 5988 for HTTP protocol or port number 5989 for HTTPS protocol. However, HP recommends that you register using HTTPS protocol to achieve high level of security and also to ensure that the SSL certificates are appropriately configured. When prompted, enter credentials for the array that have appropriate edit permissions. For HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage systems, the user must have edit permissions on the array or in the virtual domain, if applicable.

  • After installing the HP System Dashboard, it might take several minutes to discover the storage attached to the system. Clustered systems might take up to an hour to synchronize data between nodes after all nodes have been updated with the Service Release.

  • Removing the HP System Dashboard does not remove HP Management Web Services from the server. You must manually remove this service. Removing the HP Web Management Services will disable the Pool Manager.

HP System Dashboard

The HP System Dashboard is a management software that enables you to view information about your storage system, such as resource utilization, system details, storage configuration, and network configuration.

For clustered solutions, the dashboard displays information about all nodes available in a cluster. You can select one or more nodes in the dashboard user interface.

The HP System Dashboard contains the following tabs:

  • Overview—Displays system health, system utilization summary, and system properties.

  • Events—Displays system event logs that include critical, warning, and informational messages.

  • Storage—Displays storage overview, drives, volumes, and shares.

  • Network—Displays network overview, interfaces, teams, and VLANs.

  • System—Displays system overview, hardware, and software details.

IMPORTANT:

  • By default, the HP System Dashboard is launched in Internet Explorer with a maximized window. HP recommends that you view the HP System Dashboard in 1024x768 display resolution.

  • Execution of the HP System Dashboard user interface is not supported on remote systems. It must be executed only on the localhost with port number 39059. The desktop shortcut HP System Dashboard, Server Manager, HP tools menu, and the Start screen use this port.

  • The HP System Dashboard does not support SSDs (Solid State Drives) connected to HP SmartArray controllers. SSDs in storage arrays, such as HP 3PAR or MSAs are supported.

Security updates

This Service Release includes updates and security patches available on Windows update from 18 October 2013 to 09 September 2014.

Fixes

The following issues are resolved in this release:

  • In HP StoreEasy 1640 Storage Systems, users were unable to provision storage using the Pool Manager.

  • If the number of shares count is very high, it might take a long time to load and display the data in the Storage → Shares tab.

Workarounds

HP System Dashboard

  • If the system is busy, the HP System Dashboard might take a long time to start or might timeout and display a spinning icon.

Workaround: Initial system discovery can take several minutes depending on the storage attached to the system. After the initial discovery is complete, reload the HP System Dashboard and be sure that the system resources are not over utilized. For example, be sure that the system has enough memory and CPU resources for the workload applied as well as for the applications like the HP System Dashboard that are running.

  • Hardware failures are not displayed in the Event Logs tab of the Health page.

Workaround: The Event Logs tab may not always display the hardware failures. This happens because the event log has data related to all the events. The Event Logs tab displays only a fixed number of events from the list of known events.

  • Changes made to the storage hardware is not reflected in dashboard Storage → Drives page.

Workaround: Any change made to the storage hardware is reflected in the Storage → Drives page only when the SMP cache is refreshed. The default interval for the next discovery set in configuration file is 6 hours. However, you can view the updates in the Storage → Drives by executing the Update-StorageProviderCache -DiscoveryLevel Full –PassThru command in an elevated Administrator PowerShell prompt.

  • When the primary node is down or unreachable in a cluster, the secondary node might not display data for CPU, Memory, Network, and User properties.

Workaround: There is no workaround for this.

Services are not installed

If data is not displayed in the HP System Dashboard or if one of the following error messages are displayed:

  • The service HP Network Discovery Service is currently not installed. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

  • The service HP Storage Discovery Service is currently not installed. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

  • The service HP System Health Discovery Service is currently not installed. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

Workaround: Click Start → Control Panel → Uninstall a program and make sure that the following components are installed:

  • HP StoreEasy Data Service

  • HP StoreEasy Dashboard

  • HP Management Web Services

If any of these components are not installed, then re-install the service release.

Services are not running

  • If one of the following error messages is displayed in the HP System Dashboard, run the services.msc command and start the stopped services listed in the error message:

    • The service HP Network Discovery Service is currently paused or stopped. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

    • The service HP Storage Discovery Service is currently paused or stopped. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

    • The service HP System Health Discovery Service is currently paused or stopped. Please refer to the troubleshooting section of the release note for more details.

    • Storage Management Provider service is not running on the system.

  • Differences observed in the data displayed for cluster nodes.

Workaround: If you observe any difference in the data displayed for cluster nodes, refresh the web browser by pressing F5 to resolve the issue. For example, if the deduplication ratio on cluster nodes does not match, press F5.

  • Empty Free space, Used space, Unallocated space, and Deduplication ratio seen after rebooting the system or restarting the service

Check the Action box on the Overview screen for the following message:Discovering system...please wait for sometime and refresh

Depending on the storage connected to the system, the HP System Dashboard take several minutes to complete the required data gathering. When the discovery completes, the data is displayed on the dashboard.

Also, change the value in the <Discover> tag under the <Storage> sub element from 15 to 120. For information on the dashboard configuration file, see the Managing the dashboard configuration file section in the Online Help of your product.

  • CPU utilization is high continuously

If the CPU utilization is high, increase the value in the <Discover> tag under <Eventlogs> and <Storage> sub elements in the dashboard configuration file. For more information on the configuration file, see the Managing the dashboard configuration file section in the Online Help of your product.
