..Hotfixes

The following list contains all Microsoft updates, including those in the initial release of SWX 2.00.0a.

..Fixes

2.04.0a

Not applicable

2.00.0a

  • Windows Error Reporting indicated that an Emulex FC card driver was not found during storage system installation.

  • HPSUM incorrectly reported that the StorageWorks Fibre Channel Array Notification Driver was not installed.

  • A Smart Array Cache error was displayed during the system recovery process.

  • The default Microsoft Windows Update settings resulted in a daily restart of the storage system.

  • The Disk Management snap-in failed when multiple instances of the snap-in were run.

  • A VDS Dynamic Provider error was displayed during system recovery.

  • The storage system and Microsoft MMC quota plug-in failed when creating a new quota.

Workarounds

General

After the storage system is left idle for a long period of time, the user is not prompted for a password when resuming the session.

Workaround: Modify the screen saver settings to require a password on resume.

  1. On the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 desktop, right-click and select Screen Resolution.

  2. Click Appearance.

  3. Under Display, click Change screen saver.

  4. Select the On resume, display logon screen check box.

  5. In the Wait field, enter the number of minutes to wait before displaying the logon screen.

  6. Click OK.

Initial Configuration Tasks

On some storage system models (X1800 G2, X1800sb G2, X3800 G2, and X3800sb G2) the HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility displays the error message Feature not supported when navigating to Settings > Configure iLO. The most commonly-changed settings such as enabling DHCP, changing the iLO DNS name, adding iLO users, or changing iLO user passwords, can still be configured using the HP Lights-Out Online Configuration Utility's User and Network menu items.

Workaround: The settings under the Settings menu item must be configured by using the iLO ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Press F8 when prompted at the console during system POST to open the RBSU. Global settings that are not supported in the online utility can be configured here.

System installation and recovery

This section describes issues related to the system installation and recovery process.

  • After running the System Recovery DVD, SAN/iQ management software is not present on the P4000 G2 Unified NAS Gateway.

Running the System Recovery DVD results in a wipe and replace operation that does not install any version of SAN/iQ management software on the storage system.

Workaround: After running the System Recovery DVD, you must manually install the desired version of SAN/iQ management software from the HP Software Depot at:

    http://www.hp.com/go/softwaredepot

  • When a system that has existing data volumes (non operating system volumes) is restored using the System Recovery DVD, the data volumes will not have drive letters assigned to them. This is by design. The volume labels are retained and can be used to identify the data volumes.

Workaround: There is no workaround for this issue; however, drive letters can be assigned to volumes using diskpart.exe or by using Disk Management. To open Disk Management, click Start > Run, enter diskmgmt.msc and then click OK. Right-click the disk and partition that you want to assign the drive letter to and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.

  • Command-line Tools and Internet Printing Client features are not installed by default with the operating system.

Workaround: Use Server Manager to manually install these features:

    1. In Server Manager, select Features and then click Add Features.

    2. Select Command-line Tools (located under Windows Server Backup features) and Internet Printing Client in the features list.

    3. Click Next and complete the Add Features Wizard installation process.

  • After installing the storage system in Chinese or Japanese, some non-Unicode applications display question mark characters instead of the correct characters. When a storage system is first installed, either by booting a new storage system or by restoring the system with the System Recovery DVD, the Windows Welcome wizard offers a choice of languages. The second page of the Windows Welcome wizard allows selection of settings for Country and Region, Time and Currency, and Keyboard Layout. When the appropriate Chinese or Japanese settings are selected, they are correctly reflected in the Region and Language Control Panel program; however, despite the correct regional settings, some applications that do not support Unicode do not display characters correctly.

Workaround: Change the regional settings to another language and location, and then back to Chinese or Japanese. The following steps describe how to change to English settings and then back to the desired region and language settings.

    1. Log in as a local administrator, and select Start > Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Region and Language.

    2. On the Format tab, select English (United States) from the list of languages and regions and then click Apply.

    3. On the Location tab, select United States for the current location and then click Apply.

    4. On the Keyboards and Languages tab, select English for the display language and then click OK. You will then be prompted to log off. Click Log off now.

    5. Repeat step 1.

    6. On the Administrative tab, click Change system locale and select English (United States) as the current system locale. You will be prompted to restart Windows. Click Restart now.

    7. When Windows restarts, repeat step 1. Repeat steps 2 through 6, but this time select the appropriate Chinese or Japanese setting. Log off and restart Windows when prompted.

  • The time zone selected during the image process is not retained. The image process allows you to set the time zone; however, the time zone is always set to Pacific time when the operating system comes up for the first time.

Workaround: Change the time zone after the system is fully imaged.

  • If the system device ID is changed and does not begin with the word “ProLiant”, the WBEM provider (version 9.1.0.0) included with ProLiant Support Pack 9.10 will not be installed when performing a system recovery after system device ID is changed. Changing the system device ID may be necessary for a number of reasons, including a resolution to the issue described in customer advisory c02789378 (HP Insight Remote Support software may not report events on HP StorageWorks X1000 and X3000-series and HP StorageWorks X1000 G2 and X3000 G2-series Network Storage Systems).

Workaround: Install the latest WBEM provider (version 9.3.0.0) using the installer executable located in c:\hpnas\components\WBEM.

..Prerequisites

  • To determine your HP Quick Restore version, select System and Network Settings from within the Server Management Console under Configuration.

  • Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 is required before you install the service release. The service release installer instructs you to install this prerequisite before it allows you to continue. After installing the prerequisite through the service release installer or manually, the server must be restarted. Components may not be installed if the server is not restarted

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 is required before you install the service release. The service release installer instructs you to install this prerequisite before it allows you to continue.

  • The storage server should have at least 1 GB of available space on the system drive when installing the service release. The specific amount of disk space required depends on the components that are selected for installation.

..Installation instructions

  1. Download the service release file:

    1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support.

    2. Select Drivers and Software.

    3. Enter the product (for example, X3000 G2) in the Enter a product name/number box and click Search.

    4. Select your product, select the operating system, and then select the service release.

    5. Copy SrPackage2.04.0a.xx.exe to a temporary folder on your system (where xx is the build number).

  2. Run SrPackage2.04.0a.xx.exe and follow the prompts on the service release installation window. Run the service release installer until all required components have been installed.

  3. Copy SrPackage2.04.0a.xx.exe to the other server blade and repeat step 2 on that server blade.

NOTE: After installing the service release and rebooting, the service release installer shortcut is not removed automatically from the desktop. No action will occur if you click the shortcut. You can delete the shortcut.
