Hotfixes and security updates

..2.02.1b fixes

HP E5000 System Manager

  • The automatic refresh function has been removed from the Firmware tab.

System Management Homepage

  • The overall status of all I/O modules now displays "Unknown" if the status of one or more I/O modules is “Unknown”.

  • The Drives Summary page now renders completely and displays the correct error when only one SAS path is available.

  • For a pool with an active spare drive, the pool summary correctly lists the spare drives, physical drives, and logical volumes for that pool.

  • A warning is now displayed when a power supply is removed.

Alerts and Email

  • If you inadvertently save an Alerts and Email recipient twice, an unhandled exception error no longer displays.

..HP 1210m controller firmware 1.66 fixes

  • Spare sync and regenerative rebuilds now occur concurrently to address the rare occurrence of a rebuild from a spare disk to replacement disk at the same time as a second disk failure, which previously could result in data loss.

  • When a rebuild operation skipped a data zone that had no data written to it, the rebuild previously might not correctly continue at the next data zone. This issue could cause the operations to remain incomplete, which could put data at risk and cause slow performance.

  • When the I/O modules of the external disk enclosure is flashed by the Firmware Management Tool, the Port field now correctly displays the port ID for each I/O module. Previously, the same value displayed in the Port field for both I/O modules.

  • When previously upgrading the HP E5000 software from 2.01.1a to 2.01.1b, the HP 1210m controller firmware did not get updated to the latest version.

  • The Enclosure Manager firmware update would fail if the HP 1210m controller could not detect the Enclosure Manager IP address.

..Workarounds

  • If you enabled User Access Control (UAC) in your environment, the E5000 Configuration Wizard may fail to start (only a screen displaying “HP E5000 Configuration Wizard” appears). You can start the wizard manually. To do so, locate the hpconfwiz.exe file in the C:\Program Files\HP\HP Configuration Wizard folder. Right click on the application name and click Run as Administrator.

  • If you enabled User Access Control (UAC) in your environment, you may need to launch the Exchange Deployment Tool manually. To do so, locate the DeployApp.exe in the C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP E5000 Messaging System Exchange Deployment Tool folder. Right-click on the application name and select Run As Administrator. HP recommends that you disable UAC during deployment because a reboot is required when using the Exchange Deployment Tool. To disable UAC, go to User Accounts in the Control Panel.

  • When the E5000 Configuration Wizard is executing the Required Tasks, if an adapter is degraded, the warning may display twice:

    • Diagnostic "Ethernet": HP NC382m DP 1GbE Multifunction BL-c Adapter #53 Warning: Degraded

    • Diagnostic "Ethernet": HP NC382m DP 1GbE Multifunction BL-c Adapter #53 Warning: Degraded

You can ignore the duplicate warning.

  • In the Enclosure Manager Settings Utility, do not select Use automatic link local IP address unless the Enclosure Manager is on a switch and a network is already configured to use the link local IP address. Otherwise, an exception stack trace error will display and the utility will be unable to communicate with the Enclosure Manager.

  • When the E5000 Configuration Wizard is running, it runs at the front of the display, blocking the displays of any other applications that may be running. You can minimize the E5000 Configuration Wizard if it is not currently being used.

  • If a disk is identified as “degraded” in the HP E5000 System Manager, there may be a problem with a SAS I/O module. Go to the System Management Homepage for additional information to help identify the source of the problem.

  • When you add new storage to the E5000 and configure it (using the E5000 Configuration Wizard) prior to deploying Exchange, do not select the Run Jetstress option in the E5000 Messaging System Exchange Deployment Tool. The newly configured storage undergoes parity initialization for 8 to 24 hours (depending on the amount of storage configured); this process will invalidate the Jetstress results.

NOTE: Storage purchased with your E5000 Messaging System is configured and pre-initialized at the HP Factory.

  • If the ECW Exception: BamlRecordReader error message displays when you start the E5000 Configuration Wizard, it means that the supporting processes have not completed and, therefore, all data is not available yet. To resolve this issue, restart the wizard.

  • If, after setting the computer name on the Computer Name window of the E5000 Configuration Wizard, you go back to this window to change the computer name again, the new computer name is not reflected in the final configuration tasks list on the Summary window. However, the new computer name will take effect when you click Finish. You can ignore how the computer name displays on the Summary window. The Summary window will be fixed in the next release.

  • After the service release has been installed and the installation files are removed from the system, the following error message incorrectly displays if you select the E5000 Configuration Wizard from the Start menu:

The path ’c:\hpnas\HPIM\SrPackage1.2.2.177\nss\all\configurationwizard\software\ConfWiz_Installer.msi’ cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package ’ConfWiz_Installer.msi’ in a folder from which you can install the product HP E5000 Configuration Wizard.

To access the E5000 Configuration Wizard, select Start > Computer, navigate to Program Files\HP\HP Configuration Wizard and double-click hpconfwiz.exe.

  • When upgrading firmware for hardware components, the upgrades are listed in the recommended order on the System Manager Firmware tab. However, if an error occurs for one of the components during the upgrade, the upgrade process stops (instead of skipping that component and upgrading the next one). Follow the instructions on the Firmware tab for any firmware that was successfully upgraded and attempt to resolve the error. If you choose instead to continue upgrading the remaining components, ensure that you do not select the failed component and only select the remaining components that are listed after the failed component. Then click Apply to continue.

  • After installing the service release and rebooting the system, the service release installer shortcut is not removed automatically from the desktop. You can delete the shortcut manually.

  • When running the Exchange Deployment Tool on the second node, the Database naming prefix field on the Custom Input window may be blank. If so, you can perform the following checks:

    • Check if the node is communicating with Active Directory. To do so, run the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer.

    • Identify what prefix is used on node 1: The default prefix is DB. If you used the default prefix on node 1, enter DB in the field. If you did not use the default or need to verify what was used, go to node 1 and open an Exchange Management shell. Enter the following command:

$x=get-MailboxDatabase -server “node 1 server name”

      $x[0].Name

The command output displays the prefix.

  • If Windows Update (select Start > All Programs > Windows Update) fails to locate updates, verify the following:

    1. Open Internet Explorer.

    2. Select Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings.

    3. In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, determine if the Automatically detect settings checkbox is selected

    4. If it is selected, and if your network normally requires it to be NOT selected, remove the selection and click OK.

    5. Run Windows Update again.

  • When editing an email recipient in the Alerts Email window in the E5000 Configuration Wizard, the “Alert Severity” field does not get populated with the previously selected value.

  • The Introduction window of the Exchange Deployment Tool includes a link to the Exchange Pre-Deployment Analyzer (http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9738616). This link works for the English version of Windows but does not work for non-English versions of Windows.

To resolve this issue, copy the XML files from the \en folder within the install directory and copy them to the root of the install directory.

  • If you are running E5000 software version 2.01 or earlier, the E5000 Configuration Wizard does not configure the replication network according to Microsoft Exchange best practices. It will be necessary to edit the network settings after the E5000 Configuration Wizard is run. Or, after upgrading to 2.02.1b on each server blade, run the E5000 Configuration Wizard again. When you advance to the Network Configuration window, the replication network values will be set correctly. For more information about Microsoft Exchange best practices, see the Planning for High Availability and Site Resilience article at:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638104.aspx

    To edit the replication network:

    1. Select Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.

    2. Right-click Replication Network and select Properties.

The Replication Network Properties dialog box opens.

    3. Remove the selection for the following features:

      • Client for Microsoft Networks

      • QoS Packet Scheduler

      • File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

    4. Click OK to save your changes.

    5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then select Properties.

The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties dialog box opens.

    6. Click Advanced.

The Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box opens.

    7. Select the DNS tab.

    8. Remove the selection for the Register this connection’s addresses in DNS feature.

    9. Click OK to save your changes.

  • If you are not logged in as an administrator or you are logged on as a domain user, when you access Storage Viewer from the Start menu and right-click on it, the Run as administrator option is not displayed. To resolve this, access Storage Viewer from the installed location. Go to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Storage Viewer, right-click HP.StorageTools.StorageViewer.exe and select Run as administrator.

  • After installing the E5000 service release (version 2.02.1b) on an E5000 running 2.00.1x, which includes WBEM Providers version 2.0.0.3, the System Manager and System Management Homepage may report there is no communication with the controllers or storage. To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:

    1. Go to Add/Remove Programs, select HP Insight Management CSP WBEM Providers For Windows and remove it.

    2. Reboot the server.

    3. Install the WBEM Providers software by navigating to C:\hpnas\Components\WBEM and double clicking hpidpwbemproviders_64.msi.

  • After installing the E5000 service release (version 2.02.1b), the E5000 Configuration Wizard starts automatically on Server 1; wait for it to complete. Do not run the wizard on Server 2 until it has completed on Server 1 because any provisioning that is required will only be performed on Server 1. If Exchange volumes have not been provisioned before you run the wizard on Server 2, the wizard may indicate success on Server 2; however, the Exchange volumes dedicated to Server 2 will not be configured properly. If this occurs, run the wizard again on Server 2.

NOTE: When the E5000 Configuration Wizard starts after the service release installation, the wizard checks for RAID0 Recovery LUNs. If these recovery LUNs are detected, a message displays asking you to delete the RAID0 Recovery LUNs and create a RAID1 Recovery LUN. With the introduction of the Recovery LUN Manager in 2.02.1b, the RAID0 Recovery LUNs need to be reconfigured as a RAID1 Recovery LUN so you can use the Recovery LUN Manager. Therefore, if this message displays, allow the LUN reconfiguration to proceed.

  • After updating the SAS I/O module firmware but before the system has been rebooted, the following error may display in the Additional Information column on the System Manager Firmware tab:

Error code 0x1012: Flash failed for internal half of SAS I/O Module using IE-1821.fuf. Check log file (C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\CMP\logs\firwmware.log) for further information.

The error message only displays due to the timing of the actual upgrade and the system reboot. Once the system is rebooted or the Firmware tab is refreshed, the error message no longer displays.

  • If the E5000 Configuration Wizard or HP Storage Viewer is running when you attempt to generate a report in the System Manager Reports tab, the Reports tab eventually indicates that a report was not generated. To resolve this issue, ensure that the wizard or HP Storage Viewer is not running when generating a report.

  • After making a change to an alert notification on the Alert Emails window of the E5000 Configuration Wizard, an exception error may display. Even though this exception displays, the change is still made. You can ignore the exception error.

  • On the System Manager Firmware tab, the translated text for the Apply Updates and Refresh buttons use similar words for both buttons, which could cause confusion. In a future release, the buttons will be spaced farther apart and the button text will be changed to Apply Firmware Updates and Refresh Table, respectively, to ensure the translated text used for these buttons is distinct.

  • The default time zone in the E5000 Configuration Wizard is Pacific. If you change the time zone on the Set Time Zone window of the wizard, the time displayed in the wizard will immediately change to an incorrect time. However, once you complete the wizard, the correct time (and time zone) will display.

  • When a disk enclosure fan is removed from the system, a warning displays on the Storage Enclosure page of the System Management Homepage. The System Manager does not display a warning when a disk drive fan is removed. To receive notice when this error occurs, create an Alert Email for storage warnings.

  • If you install the service release on an E5000 system that was running an earlier version of iLO 2 (2.01), the iLO 2 software will be updated to the latest version (2.06). However, the System Manager Firmware tab may indicate the iLO 2 version is still 2.01 and display an 0x1011 error. To resolve this error, reset iLO manually. After the reset, the System Manager Firmware tab will not list iLO 2 as requiring an update.

  • The Firmware tab in System Manager may indicate a firmware upgrade for a disk drive within the E5000 server, but when the upgrade is attempted, the following message may be displayed:

Flash not attempted for INTERNAL SERVER HDD using cp01xxxx.exe: the firmware version (HPDx) is already up to date for device. However, you may still force the install of the firmware by specifying the option ’force’ tag value set to ’true’.

Further, when you view the disk drive in the System Management Homepage (viewing physical drives for the P410i Smart Array controller), it indicates the previous version (either HPDB or HPDD) is installed before a reboot. However, the firmware has been upgraded. After rebooting the server, the System Management Homepage indicates the latest version (either HPDC or HPDE) is installed.

  • When configuring Alerts and Email through the E5000 Configuration Wizard, if two recipients have been created for the first time and you copy the second recipient to create a third, the third recipient may overwrite the second recipient. You must recreate the second recipient. This does not occur for subsequent copies of recipients.

  • After updating the P410i controller firmware and rebooting the server to complete the update process, run the E5000 Configuration Wizard. If the update does not successfully complete during the reboot, the firmware diagnostics indicates that the P410i controller firmware is at the previous version. Open Server Manager, select HP E5000 System Manager and check for firmware updates needed.

It will indicate either one of the following:

    • The firmware update has succeeded for the P410i and the system needs to be rebooted. You will not be allowed to reapply the update. To resolve this issue, complete one of the two procedures mentioned below.

    • The System Manager displays ”upgrade needed” and after applying the update it displays “FW already up to date”. Use the second procedure to apply the update manually to resolve this issue.

    • To resolve this issue, complete one of the following procedures:

      • Rename or delete the files that maintain the state of the firmware updates.

        1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\E5000\HP Firmware Update Tool\.

        2. Rename or delete upgradeNeeded.xml and upgradeCompleted.xml.

        3. Restart the Server Manager.

        4. Re-apply the P410i controller firmware update.

        5. Reboot the server.

        6. Run the E5000 Configuration Wizard to complete the configuration.

      • Apply the update manually.

The system may erroneously report that the update has already been applied, you will need to install it again for the update to take.

        1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\CMP\firmware directory.

        2. Run CP016902.exe.

        3. Apply the update.

        4. Reboot the server.

        5. Run the E5000 Configuration Wizard to complete the configuration.

If this does not resolve the problem contact HP support.

..Prerequisites

Microsoft Windows Server R2 2008 SP1 is required before you can install the service release. The service release will instruct you to install this prerequisite before it allows you to continue. After installing the prerequisites through the service release or manually, the server must be restarted. Components may not be installed if the server is not restarted.

..Upgrading to Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP2

Before upgrading to Microsoft Exchange 2010 SP2, you must install the IIS6 WMI Compatibility component. To install the component, use Server Manager or Windows PowerShell.

Using Server Manager

  1. Open Server Manager and select Roles.

  2. Under Web Server (IIS), locate the Role Services section. Scroll through the list until you locate the IIS 6 Management Compatibility section.

  3. Right-click IIS 6 WMI Compatibility and select Install. Wait for the installation to complete. The status of the component changes to Installed.

  4. Continue with the Exchange 2010 SP2 update.

Or, after downloading the SP2 update, unzip it and go to the directory where the files were unzipped. Open a command line prompt and enter the following command:

    Setup /Mode:Upgrade /InstallWindowsComponents

Using Windows PowerShell

  1. From the Start menu, navigate to All Programs > Accessories > Windows PowerShell > Windows PowerShell ISE.

..Installation instructions (new messaging systems)

Installation instructions are provided in the HP E5000 Messaging System for Microsoft Exchange Administrator Guide.

..Installation instructions (existing messaging systems)

Installation considerations

  • You must be logged in as the local administrator to install the service release.

  • If UAC is enabled, the following message about the E5000 Configuration Wizard (hpconfigwiz.exe) will display after the first reboot that occurs in the service release installer process:

Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?

To continue, enter the administrator password and click Yes.

  • When installing the JRE 6 component as part of the service release, the following security alert appears:

Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed?

Click Yes to continue with the installation.

  • If you are upgrading to 2.02.1b from either 2.00.1a226 or 2.00.1a226.p1, the version of SAS I/O module firmware that is shipped with 2.02.1b (1.8.0.23) cannot be upgraded directly from the version running with 2.00.1a226 or 2.00.1a226.p1 (1.1.0.04). The I/O module firmware must be upgraded to an interim version (1.5.0.48) first. The service release installer detects the I/O module firmware version that is currently installed and displays a message if the interim version must be installed. The service release installer will then install the interim version. After the interim version is installed, go to the System Manager Firmware tab and upgrade to the latest version (1.8.0.23).

  • For the server being upgraded, ensure that you have internet connectivity to the server and that DNS name resolution is functioning correctly. The HP E5000 System Validation Service, which is installed as part of the service release, requires an update from a website and if the service cannot connect to the website, the service release installer will fail when installing this component. If this failure occurs, configure DNS name resolution on the server and restart the service release installer.

Backing up recipients for Alerts and Email

If you have configured the E5000 software for Alert Email Notifications, you must back up the defined recipients file before installing the service release. If you do not back up the defined recipients file, the settings will be lost and the Alerts and Email snap-in will not be properly configured.

To determine if there are defined recipients for Alerts and Email:

  1. Open Server Manager and select HP E5000 System Manager.

  2. Select Alerts and Email.

If there are recipients listed, back up the file.

To back up the file:

  1. Copy the SMTPRecipients.txt file from C:\Program Files\Hewlett Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\ to a temporary directory (for example, C:\temp).

  2. Upgrade the E5000 software.

  3. After completing the upgrade, copy SMTPRecipients.txt to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\.

Installing the service release (no shutdown)

Follow this procedure to install the service release if Microsoft Exchange has not been deployed yet in your configuration.

On Server 1:

  1. Log in as the local administrator.

  2. Download the service release file:

    1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support/.

    2. Select Drivers and Software.

    3. Enter E5000 in the Enter a product name/number box and click Search.

    4. Navigate to your product and select the latest HP E5000 zip file.

    5. Copy the zip file to Server 1 and extract its contents. The service release installer is named SrPackage2.02.1b.xxx.exe (xxx is the current build number).

  3. Double-click SrPackage2.02.1b.xxx.exe, which installs the new firmware files in the correct location on the server and starts the service release installer.

  4. Click Accept twice — once for the service release installer license agreement and once for the Microsoft license agreement.

The service release installer window appears and lists all of the components that will be installed.

NOTE: Required components must be installed. Components listed as “Install” are optional and you can choose to install them or not. Components listed as “Up-to-date” do not require an install.

  5. Click Install.

NOTE: If you are upgrading an E5000 system running E5000 software version 2.00.1x, the service release installer checks for Microsoft Windows Server R2 SP1. If it is not installed, you are prompted to select the link in the installer window to download and install it. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the SP1 installation. When the installation is complete, the server must be rebooted. After the reboot, you must select the service installer .exe again, which opens the service release installer window and lists the components to be installed. Click Install to continue.

The installer window indicates the progress of the installation. When a component is installed, a green checkmark displays next to it. If the component is currently being installed, “Installing” displays next to the component name.

  6. When the upgrade completes, the installer window indicates the results and lists the installed programs. By default, the Reboot and Cleanup boxes are selected. If you want to run the installer again, remove the selection for the Cleanup box.

    Click Finish to exit.

  7. Open Server Manager, select HP E5000 System Manager, and click the Firmware tab.

  8. In the Components Available for Upgrades window, select the check box for each component being upgraded.

  9. Click Apply Updates.

Follow the instructions on the Firmware tab to complete the component firmware upgrades. The upgrade is complete on Server 1.

  10. Copy the SrPackage2.02.1b.xxx.exe file from Server 1 to Server 2.

NOTE: Clear the browser cache after the upgrade.
