After installing the service release, the System Manager Firmware tab now lists all applicable firmware updates for the hardware components.
The automatic refresh function has been removed from the System Manager Firmware tab. This ensures that status information about updates is reflected accurately.
When a spare drive goes bad, the failed spare drive and any other spares are now correctly reported in the Manage Spare Drives wizard and the failed spare drive can be removed using the wizard.
When viewing a list of existing pools in the Create a Volume wizard, the pool size now accounts for the requested RAID level of the volume.
When entering an email address and SMTP address in the Alerts and Email snap-in, the addresses are validated and tested to ensure they can be used.
The option to configure the Enclosure Management Unit (EMU) using a local link IP address has been removed.
When launching the Validate and Create Cluster wizard, the wizard does not fail when checking prerequisites.
In the Extend a Volume wizard, you can now remove unused drives from the pool.
On the Enclosure Settings dialog box, the Cancel button has been changed to the Close button.
In the Extend a Volume wizard, the following message is now displayed if you attempt to add a spare drive to the pool and there is an issue with the drive: "One or more drives in the pool are missing, degraded or failed. Please address the problem before extending the LUN in the pool."
Spare sync and regenerative rebuilds now occur concurrently to address the rare occurrence of a rebuild from a spare disk to replacement disk at the same time as a second disk failure, which previously could result in data loss.
When a rebuild operation skipped a data zone that had no data written to it, the rebuild previously might not correctly continue at the next data zone. This issue could cause the operations to remain incomplete, which could put data at risk and cause slow performance.
When the I/O modules of the external disk enclosure is flashed by the Firmware Management Tool, the Port field now correctly displays the port ID for each I/O module. Previously, the same value displayed in the Port field for both I/O modules.
The Enclosure Manager firmware update would fail if the HP 1210m controller could not detect the Enclosure Manager IP address.
The front panel health indicator (LED) may not reflect the health of both storage system nodes. One node may not indicate any faults (using HP System Management Homepage) while the other node may have faults. In some cases, the front panel health indicator will remain green, indicating that the system is functioning without faults when in fact there may be faults.
Workaround: Monitor the system using management agents, or manually by running the HP System Management Homepage on each node, to determine the system status.
If you attempt to use HP Insight Diagnostics on the X5000 G2 Network Storage System, it will fail with CISS_StatusHandler
errors. HP Insight Diagnostics is not currently supported with the X5000 G2. Until HP Insight Diagnostics includes support for the X5000 G2, use the System Management Homepage or System Manager.
When multiple non-DHCP networks are detected, each network is displayed on the Client access point page and you must supply a static IP address for each network. However, you may not wish to enable client access to the file server on all of the networks. It is not clear how to ignore particular networks.
Workaround: Do not supply a static IP address for any network over which client access is not desired. Leave the address at the default setting for that network, which is the subnet address. Only networks for which a valid static IP address has been supplied are used. You can review which networks have been selected before submitting the configuration changes.
If, when you select Manually configure a static IP address in the Enclosure Manager Settings dialog box, you leave the default gateway field blank and enter the DNS address, the DNS address is automatically set as the default gateway. As a result, you cannot manage the Enclosure Manager settings remotely through ssh
because the gateway is incorrect.
Workaround: Use Remote Desktop Connection to access the nodes and the Enclosure Manager settings.
If you have an X5000 G2 connected to a D2600 or D2700 disk enclosure that is running firmware version 0103, an updated version of disk drive firmware is included with the latest service release. When applying the updates for the disk drive firmware on the System Manager Firmware tab, the following error message may display after the upgrade has completed successfully: “Flash failed for X5000 Expansion Node I/O Module”.
Workaround: After you have completed upgrading all components and reboot the system, the error message no longer displays on the System Manager Firmware tab. The disk drive firmware was upgraded successfully.
For some disk drive firmware, there is one Smart Component executable that upgrades the firmware for disk drives within the X5000 servers and the disk drives in attached disk enclosures. In this scenario, when upgrading the disk drive firmware on the System Manager Firmware tab, the Additional Information column may display two messages for one component that seem contradictory, but they are not. As an example, messages similar to the following may be displayed:
Flash not attempted for HP X5000 Storage Enclosure HDD using cp017205.exe: Drive model(s) not supported. Check log file (c:\CPQSYSTEM\log\cpqsetup.log) for further information. Flash succeeded for INTERNAL SERVER HDD using cp017205.exe. The system must be restarted to complete the operation.
The first message applies to the external disk enclosure and indicates the drive model is not supported because an external disk enclosure is not attached. The second message applies to the disk drive within the X5000 servers. This scenario applies for the following Smart Component executables and disk drive models:
Smart Component file name | Enclosure disk drive model | Server disk drive model |
---|---|---|
Cp016024.exe | EG0600FBLSH, EG0900FBLSK | EG0300FBLSE |
Cp017025.exe | EG0600FBDBU | EG0300FBDBR |
Cp016020.exe | EG0600FBDSR | EG0300FBDSP |
The Extend a volume topic in the online help contains conflicting information about adding new disks to the pool to increase the size of the volume. The first paragraph in the topic says new disks cannot be added to increase the size of the pool, but step 3 in the procedure explains the new functionality that enables you to increase the size.
Workaround: Step 3 in the procedure is correct. The following sentence in the first paragraph of the topic will be removed in the next update of the online help: “The size can be extended only to the amount available in the storage pool, because new disks cannot be added to increase the size of the pool.”
When viewing the System Management Homepage in Japanese, some of the enclosure and 1210m controller information that is displayed in English is not displayed in Japanese.
Workaround: To view the missing information, run a report using the Reports tab in the System Manager. After the report is generated, go to the C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\logs
directory and open the hphwphysical.xml
file to view all hardware details, including the missing information. Another option is to change the language setting in the browser to English. The details will be displayed in the English version of the System Management Homepage.
When upgrading firmware for hardware components, the upgrades are listed in the recommended order on the System Manager Firmware tab. However, if an error occurs for one of the components during the upgrade, the upgrade process stops (instead of skipping that component and upgrading the next one).
Workaround: Follow the instructions on the Firmware tab for any firmware that was not successfully upgraded and attempt to resolve the error. If you choose instead to continue upgrading the remaining components, ensure that you do not select the failed component and only select the remaining components that are listed after the failed component. Then click Apply to continue.
After updating the SAS I/O module firmware but before the system has been rebooted, the following error may display in the Additional Information column on the System Manager Firmware tab:
Error code 0x1012: Flash failed for internal half of SAS I/O Module using IE-1821.fuf. Check log file (C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\CMP\logs\firwmware.log) for further information.
Workaround: The error message only displays due to the timing of the actual upgrade and the system reboot. Once the system is rebooted or the Firmware tab is refreshed, the error message no longer displays.
Volumes created for the X5000 are always exposed to both nodes in the system, and are always intended to be used as clustered disks. A volume that has not been added to the cluster should not be used to contain data. The Create Volume Wizard has a check box (Add volume to cluster) that you can deselect, resulting in a non-clustered volume. If you deselect the check box, you should always manually add the volume to the cluster as follows:
Select Start > Administrative Tools > Failover Cluster Manager.
Expand the navigation tree in the left pane and select the Storage node in the tree.
Select Add a disk in the actions pane on the right.
Select the disk corresponding to the volume you just created and click OK.
The new cluster disk appears as “Available Storage”.
The service release provides a new version of the Create Volume Wizard that does not include the Add volume to cluster checkbox, and will always add a new volume to the cluster. To check which version of the Create Volume Wizard that is installed, select Start > Control Panel > Programs and check the version of HP X5520 Storage Management Tools:
Version 1.4.0: Includes the checkbox
Version 1.4.1: Omits the checkbox and always adds a new volume to the cluster
If HP Storage Viewer is running when you attempt to generate a report in the System Manager Reports tab, the Reports tab eventually indicates that a report was not generated.
Workaround: To resolve this issue, ensure that HP Storage Viewer is not running when generating a report.
To determine if you should install the service release, verify the QR version that is running on the X5000 G2:
A QRVersion
that is less than the version listed in this document indicates you are running an older version of the X5000 G2 software. Upgrading to the latest version is recommended.
NOTE: The QR version corresponds to the version of the System Recovery DVD that was shipped with the X5000 G2. The System Recovery DVD is periodically updated. If you must perform a system recovery, you may want to check for a more recent version available on the web. See the HP X5000 G2 Network Storage System Administrator Guide for more information about system recovery. | |
If you have configured the X5000 G2 software for Alert Email Notifications, you must back up the defined recipients file before installing the service release. If you do not back up the defined recipients file, the settings will be lost and the Alerts and Email snap-in will not be properly configured.
To determine if there are defined recipients for Alerts and Email:
Open Server Manager and select the System Manager.
Select Alerts and Email.
If there are recipients listed, continue with the following steps to back up the file.
Copy the SMTPRecipients.txt
file from C:\Program Files\Hewlett Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\
to a temporary directory (for example, C:\temp
).
Upgrade the X5000 G2 software.
After completing the upgrade, copy SMTPRecipients.txt
to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\
.
Instructions for installing the storage system are provided in the HP X5000 G2 Network Storage System Quick Start Guide.
Before installing the service release, ensure that the system drive where the software will be installed has a minimum of 1 GB of available space to accommodate the upgrade. The specific amount of disk space required depends on the components selected for installation.
