HP StorageWorks MSA2000 VDS Hardware Provider release notes

Version 2.5.1.5 (B)

Version: 2.5.1.5 (B)

..Description

The VDS and VSS hardware providers enable Windows Server 2003 applications, such as DISKRAID and Storage Managers for SAN, and Windows Server 2008 applications, such as Storage Explorer and DISKSHADOW, to manage the MSA2000 arrays. The hardware providers require the installation of the CAPI Proxy component.

The software is organized into separate archives based on the host I/O interface supported by the product (FC/SAS or iSCSI) and the CPU architecture for which the Windows Server 2003 edition is optimized (x86, x64, or ia64).

These hardware providers do not include user interfaces or standalone functionality; instead they enable other applications such as Microsoft's DISKRAID or Storage Manager for SANs to manage the StorageWorks MSA2000 Family products.

The StorageWorks MSA2000 Family VDS and VSS Hardware Providers may be installed concurrently with VDS and VSS Providers for other HP products.

Additional documentation may be found in the HP MSA2000 Family VDS and VSS Hardware Providers Installation Guide, P/N 485500-002.

..Fixes

Fixed compatibility issues with SSCM.

..Prerequisites

Requires HP StorageWorks MSA2000 Family CAPI Proxy 2.5 (or newer). Before installing this package, install the CAPI Proxy package. The VDS Provider does not function without the CAPI Proxy.

..Important notes

  • If DISKRAID.EXE exits abnormally, terminate the processes VDS.EXE and DLLHOST.EXE hosting the VDS Provider manually before running DISKRAID.EXE again.

  • After a LUN is assigned to the host, you may need to execute a rescan operation in Device Manager to view the paths for the LUN in some commands, such as detail lun.

  • The following commands are not supported: ADD, BREAK, OFFLINE, ONLINE, RESET, STANDBY, RECOVER, REPLACE.

..Installation instructions

There are separate VDS Providers for iSCSI and non-iSCSI products. Verify that you have the correct package for your product.

This release can be installed directly on top of previous releases of the MSA2000 VDS Provider releases 2.2 or higher.

Before installing this package, install the HP StorageWorks MSA2000 Family CAPI Proxy package. The VDS provider does not function without the CAPI Proxy.

To install this package, execute the smart component CPxxxxxx.EXE.

After the CAPI Proxy and VDS Provider are installed, no further configuration is necessary.

To uninstall the VDS and VSS Providers, use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet on Windows Server 2003, or the Programs and Features applet on Windows Server 2008. Uninstall the VSS Provider first; then the VDS Provider; and finally the CAPI Proxy application.

..Known issue

Applies to:

  • MSA2000 Windows 2003/2008 iSCSI VDS Provider x64 2.5.1.5

  • MSA2000 Windows 2003/2008 iSCSI VDS Provider IA64 2.5.1.5

  • The iSCSI VDS provider in 64-bit Windows will not install on Windows 2008 because it is not listed as a supported OS.

Workaround: Launch the iSCSI VDS Smart Component and use the Extract option to extract the contents of the Smart Component to a folder on the hard drive, and then manually execute the SETUP.EXE located inside the folder.
