..Enhancements

Software release 3.02.2a includes the following enhancements:

  • The HP StorEasy 1000 now supports the D6000 disk enclosure and dual domain cabling configurations. See the HP StoreEasy 1000 Storage Administrator Guide for more information.

  • Multiple controller support added for HP StoreEasy Pool Manager. An error message will now display indicating an unsupported configuration if the controllers in a StoreEasy 1000 system are connected to the same JBOD within a disk enclosure.

  • The Overview tab of Pool Manager now includes the number of controllers (1000 and 5000 only).

  • The Edit Pools tab of Pool Manager now identifies the controller model and its location in the Details section (1000 and 5000 only).

  • HPSREPORTS now includes information about the system, storage controllers, network controllers, installed software, and HP server network configuration in the logs that are generated

..Fixes

Software release 3.02.2a contains updated firmware (1.78) for the HP 1210m RAID controller. For more information about the 1.78 firmware, see the customer bulletin at:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/kb/docDisplay/?docId=emr_na-c03888670

Pool Manager

  • The Delete Pool Confirmation page now correctly displays the Delete and Help buttons.

  • The Delete Pool Wizard now correctly displays the disk drive orientation when 8 disk drives are connected.

  • On the Edit Pool tab, the radio button for Edit is now selected when you click it.

..Workarounds

When accessing Pool Manager after installing the 3.02.2a service release, the following error message

is displayed: 0x20006005 Could not find ROM Check Library (pssver.dll), this is required to find pool template for any enclosure.

To resolve this issue, close the Initial Configuration Tasks (ICT) window and uninstall HP StoreEasy Pool Manager using Control Panel. Reinstall the service release.

..Determining the current version

To determine whether you should install the service release, verify the QR version that is running on the StoreEasy system:

  1. Log in to the server blade.

  2. Open a command window.

  3. Enter the reg query command as shown in the following example:

    C:\> reg query HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Hewlett-Packard\StorageWorks

Output similar to the following is displayed:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Hewlett-Packard\StorageWorks\QuickRestore
    BASE REG_SZ 2.1.0.30
    QRVersion REG_SZ 3.02.1a.123
A QRVersion that is less than the version listed in this document indicates you are running an older version of the StoreEasy software. Upgrading to the latest version is recommended.

NOTE: The QR version corresponds to the version of the System Recovery DVD that was shipped with the StoreEasy system. The System Recovery DVD is periodically updated. If you must perform a system recovery, you may want to check for a more recent version available on the web. See the administrator guide for your model for more information about system recovery.

..Backing up recipients for Alerts and Email

NOTE: Follow the instructions in this section only if you are performing a partial service release installation on the HP StoreEasy 5000.

If you have configured the StoreEasy 5000 software for Alert Email Notifications, you must back up the defined recipients file before installing the service release. If you do not back up the defined recipients file, the settings will be lost and the Alerts and Email snap-in will not be properly configured.

To determine if there are defined recipients for Alerts and Email:

NOTE: This also applies for the SR.

  1. Depending on the version you are currently running, do one of the following:

    • If you previously installed 3.02.0a or 3.00.1a (full service release version of 3.00.1a.51.exe), open the HP StoreEasy Tools folder on the desktop and select Alerts and Email.

If there are recipients listed, continue with the following steps to back up the file.

    • If you are running 3.00.0a or previously installed the partial service release version for 3.00.1a (3.00.1a.51.exe), open Server Manager and select the System Manager and then select Alerts and Email.

  2. Copy the SMTPRecipients.txt file from C:\Program Files\Hewlett Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\ to a temporary directory (for example, C:\temp).

  3. Upgrade the StoreEasy software.

  4. After completing the upgrade, copy SMTPRecipients.txt to C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Server Manager Snap-In\logs\.

..Updating storage provisioning software

If you plan to install the full service release on your StoreEasy 1000 or 5000 system, be aware that new provisioning software, HP StoreEasy Pool Manager, will be installed on your system. If you created storage pools with earlier versions of StoreEasy software, there are some limitations on how those existing storage pools can be managed by HP StoreEasy Pool Manager.

Pool Manager does not allow existing pools to be grown if any of the following conditions are present:

  • The existing pool includes disks of different types or sizes.

  • The existing pool has a resiliency configuration that the proposed pool change does not support.

  • The pool spans more than one physical enclosure.

  • The pool is contained within a physical enclosure, but uses drive bays outside the range allowed for a particular configuration.

  • The size or type of the first healthy disk in the existing pool differs from the size or type of disk expected for the range of drive bays defined.

Pool Manager does not display a pool set when creating or editing a pool if the following conditions apply:

  • The number of pools in the virtual enclosure is greater than the number of proposed pools in the pool set.

  • The size of one pool is larger than the largest pool within the pool set.

Pool Manager will assign the highest pool resiliency level to pools created with earlier versions of StoreEasy software:

  • Existing virtual disks will not be affected (RAID levels will not be migrated).

  • New virtual disks will be created using the RAID level associated with the new resiliency level.

NOTE: HP recommends that you delete all existing storage pools before installing the full service release. This will ensure the best experience.

If you understand the limitations involved with managing existing storage pools, proceed with the full service release installation. However, you must modify the registry key to successfully install the full service release. To do so, open the Registry Editor and add the following key:

HKLM\Software\Hewlett-Packard\StorageServer\SRSkipQRVersionCheck

..Installation instructions (new storage systems)

Instructions for installing the storage system are provided in the Quick Start Guide for your model.

..Installation instructions (existing 5000 storage systems)

Before installing the service release, ensure that the system drive where the software will be installed has a minimum of 1 GB of available space to accommodate the upgrade. The specific amount of disk space required depends on the components selected for installation.

IMPORTANT: You must close the ICT on all server blades before installing the service release.

  • You must be logged in as the local administrator to install the service release.

  • On systems that have no internet access, the service release installer may pause for up to five minutes while displaying the message, “Please wait while we scan your system for applicable software.” This is due to PowerShell scripts, signed by HP, that are being used to scan for software to be updated. With no internet access, certificate revocation lists cannot be checked, but there is a delay before the check fails and allows the script to continue. Wait for the scan to complete and then the service release installation will continue.

  • The service release executable must be run at least twice on each server blade and requires a firmware upgrade for applicable hardware components during the installation process. Some hardware components cannot be upgraded until a particular component is upgraded first. The service release installation window that displays includes instructions to follow. You can also refer to the HP StoreEasy 5000 Storage Administrator Guide for firmware upgrade procedures.

  1. Download the service release file:

    1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support.

    2. Select Drivers and Software.

    3. Enter your product (for example, StoreEasy 5000) in the Enter a product name/number box and click Search.

    4. Select your model, select the operating system, and then select the service release.

    5. Copy ServiceRelease_swx_3.02.2a.exe to a temporary folder on your system.

  2. If the system is a cluster, complete the following steps to ensure the file system is not affected:

    1. Select Server Manager > Tools > Failover Cluster Manager.

    2. Select the cluster. Expand the navigation tree for the cluster if it is not already expanded.

    3. Expand Services and applications and then select the clustered file server service.

    4. Under Action, select Move this service or application to other node.

Confirm your selection on the confirmation window that is displayed.

    5. Repeat these steps for each file server.

  3. Run ServiceRelease_swx_3.02.2a.exe on the server blade in Bay 1 and follow the prompts on the service release installation window. Run the service release installer until all required components have been installed.

    • If you launch more than one instance of the executable, an incorrect error message is displayed. Instead of indicating that another instance is running, the following error message is displayed:

7 zip, internal error, code 105

    • When you are prompted to reboot during the installation, the "Installation is complete" message displays in the installer window with two checkboxes—Cleanup and Reboot (both selected by default). Because more than one reboot is required during installation, HP recommends that you uncheck the Cleanup box until you have finished the installation. If you forget to run the cleanup, you can run the service release installer again. The installer returns to the point in the process where you previously stopped.

  4. Copy ServiceRelease_swx_3.02.2a.exe from the server blade in Bay 1 to the server blade in Bay 2 and repeat steps 2 and 3 on that server blade.

  5. Do one of the following:

    1. If you are using the FMT tool, select Firmware Maintenance from the HP StoreEasy desktop folder icon and click the Check and Update Firmware link. Follow the prompts to update the firmware.

    2. If you are using the Firmware tab on the System Manager, open System Manager on the server blade in Bay 1 and check for firmware updates on the Firmware tab. Update any firmware that is listed. Then, run ServiceRelease_swx_3.02.2a.exe on both server blades again (one at a time) to ensure the service release installation is complete.

On rare occasions, the reboot after completing the service release installation may take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.

NOTE: After installing the service release and rebooting, the service release installer shortcut is not removed automatically from the desktop. No action will occur if you click the shortcut. You can delete the shortcut.
