HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM)
HP SUM Version: 7.1.0
Note:
- On
servers running HP-UX, I/O and HDD firmware may be updated using HP SUM
6.x or later and the I/O and HDD smart components included in this
bundle. On
servers running an OS other than HP-UX, use the individual I/O and HDD
update packages posted to www.hp.com/go/hpsc (not provided in this bundle).
- Any
updates to OA, VC and iLO firmware should be done in one HP SUM
session first, then exit HP SUM and perform updates to HP-UX I/O
firmware in a separate HP SUM session.
- If a system FW update is pending, it will be activated at
next server power off, and server can be powered on only after the
firmware activation completes.
- To verify
if a system FW update is pending, run the iLO3 MP “SYSREV” command and
check if the Pending column shows any version for “System FW”.
- Warning: If you reset the system while
the SFW update is pending, the server may not be able to reboot due to a
firmware mismatch between SFW and iLO. If that’s the
case, power off the server to enable the new SFW activation and then
power the server back on after activation is complete.
- While the
server is powered off, you can monitor the progress of the system
firmware activation by running the iLO3 MP “FW” command from the Command
Menu (CM).
DESCRIPTION:
This bundle contains the HP Smart Update Manager (HP SUM) application with the
firmware for HP Integrity BL860c/BL870c/BL890c i2 Servers (System firmware
(SFW), FPGA firmware, iLO-3 MP firmware & Power Monitor, HDD and
IO firmware). This bundle can be used to update the firmware using the HP
SUM application.
Note:
- It is required to have appropriate SAS RAID firmware (version
6.42) and LAN-On-Motherboard (LOM) firmware (version 5.2.60) installed on
your server along with this firmware bundle, available on http://www.hp.com/go/hpsc. Current
versions can be checked using the HP-UX commands “ioscan -kfnd ciss”,
“sautil /dev/cissx vpd” and “nwmgr -q vpd -c lan0”
Refer to HP SUM 7.1.0 User Guide and Release notes

NonStop Operating System (note: supported
on BL860c i2 only)
LANGUAGES:
International English
ENHANCEMENTS:
iLO 1.56.02:
- Improved
console performance from iLO version
1.55.02
FIXES:
FPGA 2.05:
- In rare
occasions, when trying to power on a blade on an HP Integrity BL8x0c i2
server in multi-blade configuration, with all blade enclosures powered off
(AC on/DC off), the blade may fail to power on. This is now fixed.
iLO 1.56.02:
- Fixed
SSL/TLS MITM vulnerability (CVE-2014-0224).
- Fixed an
issue where a Telnet session to iLO would sometimes hang during an
operation such as FPL dump where a continuous stream of data is being
sent by iLO to the client. System and iLO would however continue to
function normally.
SFW
1.97:
- Fixed an
issue where a server with a controller configured in HBA mode would
sometimes hang at boot time without any error messages if a Hard Disk
configured for RAID mode was put into the server without previously
removing the Hard Disk's RAID metadata.
- Boot from
boot manager may no longer fail after a VC profile has been unassigned and
reassigned.
- A server
containing a PCI card which does not support PCI extended
capability would sometimes hang without any error message while
handling an MCA. This issue is now fixed.
- Fixed an
issue where, on rare occasions, the following series of events would be
seen in the SEL (System Event Log) during POST (Power-On
Self-Test): a MEM_MEM_TEST_FAILED level 3 event, a SYSTEM_SOFT_RESET,
an EFI_LAUNCH_BOOT_MANAGER. These errors did not reflect a real
hardware failure if the MEM_MEM_TEST_FAILED and soft reset
incident were not accompanied by an MCA or other errors.
Fixes in IO
components included in this bundle:
Fixes in Qlogic Fibre
Channel Host Bus Adapters firmware version 2014.02.14:
Qlogic EFI 2.27 (from
2.22):
- The QMH2562
card would sometimes report VC_CLP_RESP_DEV_NVM_ERR when no Interconnect
module was connected or when it was connected to a particular 4Gb FC
switch. This issue is now fixed.
Qlogic FW 5.06.06
(from 5.03.15):
- Fixed a
link failover issue in Qlogic 8Gb firmware for the 8Gb Mezzanine Fibre
channel adapter attached to HP VC 24 port module.
Fixes
in Broadcom NIC HP-UX version 2014.2.18 and HP Integrity BL8x0c i2 LOM EFI version
5.2.60:
Firmware version
6.2.28 (Changes from 6.2.25):
- LOM and
IOX-LAN cards may transmit excessive pause frames during MCA process in
Superdome 2 Platform multi-function mode.
Fixes in
Intel and Broadcom Adapters Firmware version 2014.04.21:
Firmware version
6.2.28 (Changes from 6.2.25):
- LOM and
IOX-LAN cards may transmit excessive pause frames during MCA process in
Superdome 2 Platform multi-function mode.
Intel EFI
version 4.3.02 (from 4.3.01):
- NIC
EFI driver update was failing on some cards shipped with a flash memory
chip (Atmel 25DF041A) that did not support the EFI driver. EFI driver
version 4.3.02 fixes this issue.
Fixes in SAS FW 6.42:
- Resolved an
issue where, after doing a mode toggle at EFI ORCA, the controller name
would not be displayed when running the command: “reconnect -r”
- Added a new
POST message 1813 to indicate bad or failed battery charge circuit
- No longer
display a POST error message 1805 “Cache Module Super-Cap is not
installed” when the controller is configured to work without
super-capacitors
Fixes in Emulex
Adapters firmware version 2013.05.02:
Firmware 4.2.401.2212
(from 4.1.450.14):
- Critical: As the result of auto
negotiation failure, the connection between LOM and ProCurve 6120XG may
link up at 1Gbps instead of 10Gbps. This occurs intermittently (as often
as once in 10 retries) after executing "Reset Server blade #"
from the OA CLI.
Affected Products
- All BE3 based Cards and LOMs. This is also seen with 10G passthrough Interconnect
module.
- Boot
failure might be seen after running commands "reconnect -r",
"map -r" commands at EFi environment.
- Boot from
SAN intermittently fails during EFI bootstrap of a FCoE device that is
busy.
- FCOE EFI
version truncated in VPD data that is displayed by ODE-FCFUPDATE tool at
EFI.
- On HP-UX
the fcoc port driver state is displayed as AUTHENTICATION/DISCOVERY when
fcocutil command is run to check the port information
NIC EFI driver
2.22.a1 (from 2.21.ac):
- Reset to
Defaults restores wrong power configuration. Reset to Default is issued
from Device Manager->Emulex 10G NIC-> R/r or Erase Configuration
Symptom - Restoring the defaults shows an HP unsupported option:
MultiChannel Option
PREREQUISITES:
- Onboard
Administrator firmware for c3000/c7000 enclosures with
BL860c/BL870c/BL890c i2:
OA 4.30 is the recommended version.

or using the VCSU utility. VCSU version 1.10.1
or later is required. The VCSU utility is not included in this
bundle and may be found on the HP Support & Drivers web site.
- iLO-3 MP
(Primary and Auxiliary) must be on the network (reachable from local
system) and have static IP or be configured with DHCP.
- An http
daemon, service or IDS (Intrusion Detection System) running in the local
system may interfere with HP SUM connecting to remote hosts, hence these
services may need to be disabled when HP SUM is running.
- Refer
to the HP Smart Update Manager 7.1.0 User Guide and Release Notes for any prerequisites required
for HP SUM.

(or 1.02, 1.03, and 2.00 are
also acceptable)
NOTE: If you see a revision in the “Pending” column, it means that
this firmware component has been updated BUT the system was not power cycled to
activate it. You may proceed with installing a new firmware version. A
pending firmware update will be activated on the next power cycle.
KNOWN FIRMWARE
ISSUES:
- DDDC
(Double Device Data Correction) will not be invoked for a second DRAM
failure in certain cases when excessive single bit memory errors are
observed. This will be indicated by a WBEM Event 7000. There is no impact
to customer applications however it is recommended to service the DIMM
upon seeing this event as the server will stop correcting single bits
memory errors if one more DRAM in the same rank fails.
- Java based
Virtual Media Applet and Java based Remote Serial Console applet will
not be launched on clients running Java 7 update 51 (see advisory c04089818)
- Integrity
iLO3 might not be accessible with the latest versions of Firefox browser.
Check the iLO3 Operations Guide on www.hp.com for a list of supported
browsers.
KNOWN INSTALLATION
ISSUES:
- If
adding iLO nodes when updating the server firmware with HP SUM 7.1.0,
- If iLO nodes have been added automatically as
associated nodes of the OA, the
system does not automatically power off in order to activate the new
system firmware, even if the reboot option was selected on the iLO deploy
page. As a result, the system firmware is not activated and shows in
Pending state.
·
However if iLO nodes are added individually instead of
associated to the OA, the system will reboot at the end of the firmware
update, even if “reboot = No” was selected
Workarounds: 1) Manually power off the blades before starting the
firmware update and then power them back on afterwards or 2) Add iLO nodes
individually instead of letting the OA node add them automatically, but the
system will always reboot after the update or 3) power off the blades
manually after the firmware is deployed to activate the system firmware.
·
Systems updating from firmware version
21.08 or earlier (iLO version 1.30.30 or earlier) to version 26.41 will
encounter the error "This package is not supported for this
hardware”.
Workaround: Update first to 26.36 (iLO version 1.55.02) before
updating to 26.41.
·
Refer to the HP SUM 7.1.0 Release Notes for
complete list of known HP SUM installation issues.

SUPERSEDES HISTORY:
Bundle Version 26.36
iLO 1.55.02:
- Fixed a
security vulnerability issue that exists in HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO
3) versions 1.53.02 and lower for BL8x0c i2. The vulnerability could be
remotely exploited resulting in disclosure of information. See SSRT100934 for
more details.
- When the
serial port MUX is set to “Persistent AUX” mode and the server is A/C
power cycled, the serial port MUX will retain the “persistent AUX” mode
setting and will not reset to “iLO” mode.
- The
severity of the events “VOLTAGE_FAULT and VOLTAGE_LOW_CRITICAL” have
been increased so that power supply events in SFM such as
"power supply failed or disconnected" and "power
supply AC lost" will now be reported in HP-UX syslog for easier
monitoring.
- Fixed an
issue where an idle SSH session to iLO3 from a PUTTY client may freeze or
may get disconnected with an error message “Incoming packet was garbled on
decryption”.
- SSH
connection to iLO from an OpenSSH 5.9 client will now work even when a
reduced list of key-exchange algorithm is not indicated.
- IPMI
chassis status now properly reflects the sensor status when cover is off
or after a fan failure.
- MP-iLO’s 15
minute auto-logoff no longer truncates a V-media Create ISO Image.
SFW 1.95:
- Fixed a
very rare issue where a system running HP-UX might appear hung for 12
seconds or a clustered system might crash or reset if the heartbeat timer
was set to a value lower than 12 seconds.
- Fixed an
issue where a failed CPU socket would not get de-configured, causing the
system to hang and not boot to EFI shell, or to continuously reboot, with
the error "BOOT_CPU_LATE_SELF_TEST_FAIL".
Bundle Version 26.35
ENHANCEMENTS:
FIXES:
The following issues
are fixed:
SFW 1.93:
- Duplicate
SFM event 100819 may be displayed after CPU is replaced and system is
booted
- System may
take many extra minutes to boot to EFI if unreadable media is in DVD
drive.
iLO-3 1.54.03:
- Added
functionality to disable iLO reset request from the FPGA while firmware is
being programmed.
- iLO serial
task errors might cause an iLO hang.
- iLO
internal task priority changed to better insure that the watchdog timer
task will reset iLO when necessary.
- The virtual
keyboard and mouse may stop working after an MP reset with OpenVMS.
FPGA 2.02:
- An iLO
firmware hang may prevent reset via the iLO physical presence button; a
fifteen (15) second button hold now generates a hardware reset signal
regardless of iLO firmware state.
Bundle Version 26.34
ENHANCEMENTS:
FIXES:
SFW 1.92:
- Fixed an
issue where a memory update operation may not complete properly when an L2
cache line encounters a second single bit data error. This may result in
the possibility of undefined system behavior. See Intel Specification Update for more information. If Specification Update link does not work, HP recommend
to go to www.intel.com and search for the latest
version of the Intel® Itanium® Processor 9300 Specification Update.
- Fixed an
issue where PAL returned no information on bus log overflow
- Fixed an
issue where an invalid log format may have been generated by hardware when
multiple MLD errors occur in a small window
Bundle Version 26.33
ENHANCEMENTS:
iLO
- The
serial port can now be set permanently to AUX mode using a new option
provided in iLO. AUX mode will be retained even after an AC power cycle.
FIXES:
iLO
- The system
iLO may hang if it remains up without being reset for days or weeks, and a
system power cycle may be required to recover
- If one of
the following systems is updated with Firmware bundle 26.31 (iLO MFW
version 01.51.03), the product number will be reset to the factory
default, which may cause warranty entitlement issues when calling HP for
support:
o BL8x0c i2 systems with a hardware upgrade kit installed
(product number AM358A, AM364A, AM365A, AM359A, and AM366A)
o BL8x0c i2 systems sold as HP Remarketed (product numbers
ending in “R”, AD399AR, AH383AR, AM329AR, AH384AR, and AM330AR)
Bundle Version 26.31
ENHANCEMENTS:
- Enhanced
description of the "Momentary Press" button
- Instructions
for launching the IRC and connecting securely over HTTPS have been
improved in the web GUI
FIXES:
The following issues have now been resolved:
SFW
- Deconfiguration
of healthy CPUs due to false cache errors (event 100819)
- System
Event Log entries are unnecessarily created every time Virtual Connection
Manager checks system “time” settings rather than just when they are
changed
- The Trusted
boot log did not contain the Image Size and Image Address of the SAS and
HP Fibre Channel Drivers
iLO
- Cannot access
iLO using LDAP domain/uid or short Domain Name
- The DF
command may report an invalid serial number value for some CPUs (too many
digits or exponential value)
- The uc
command could rarely cause the MP command mode to hang
- The blade
iLO interface may become unresponsive after being connected for about 2
weeks
- Temperature
sensors for IO Riser, Power Supply and 4 DIMMs are not visible in system
health web GUI although they are monitored and acted upon by firmware
- Not able
to"Enable DHCP" from the iLO Web GUI
- During
first power on, iLO may sometimes request too much power from the OA
- A user
without config iLO privilege is not able to view the status summary page
- An
excessive number of DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM WARNING errors may be logged when
booting from a DVD using vMedia. Requires HP-UX 11i v3 1203 Fusion for
complete fix
- A user from
a Ldap secondary group is not able to login to iLO
- From the
Web GUI page, the status of "Current Operating System" is not
visible and the "launch SMH" button is not available
- Arrow keys
do not work correctly in the Remote Serial Console with hpterm emulation
- Fix for
CVE-2008-7270, CVE-2009-3555, and CVE-2010-4180
- The cprop
command reports an error for POWER_SUPPLY_AC_LOW_LINE when connected to an
AC low line
Bundle Version : 26.11
ENHANCEMENTS:
SFW
- Enable
support for SAS tape Boot (requires to use HP Integrity Smart Array
firmware (SAS IO firmware) version 5.06 or later).
- Added extra
debug logging for CPU "uncore" during a system abort.
FIXES:
SFW
- Illegal
memory configurations could cause a system abort during boot after a DIMM
de-allocation. Now, the system will boot with reduced memory and display
appropriate alerts.
- Fixed an
issue where CMC (Correctable Machine Check) log may not be generated after
a recoverable LLC (Last Level Cache) error
iLO
- Updated the
Event Dictionary
Bundle Version : 26.05
ENHANCEMENTS:
- Support for
power management from iLO and OS including Advanced Power Capping and
Power Regulation
SFW
- Added
migration support for VC profile boot option
- Added boot
options for Virtual Connect primary/secondary boot targets that don't
already have one.
- System now
generates event for USB overcurrent condition at EFI
- Improved
the analysis of MCA logs in case of uncorrectable errors by extending data
reporting
- Improved
internal tracking of correctable memory errors count on x8 DRAMs
iLO
- Viewing the
forward progress log is now supported in the iLO GUI
- Support for
BladeSystem Matrix is now enabled with BL860c i2, BL870c i2, and BL890c
i2.
- Improved
the processing time to load the system health page in the iLO GUI, in
particular on HP BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 blades
- Availability
and usability have been enhanced.
FIXES:
SFW
- EFI shell
extended characters were forced off when entering the boot manager, and
restored to their previous state when returning to the shell; this is now
fixed
- The level 5
IODISC_RP_LINK_TRAIN_ERR event could be erroneously displayed, and which
would also cause HPUX to not discover the IPMI device
- Certain
events were not sent while in virtual mode during system OS shutdown
- A failed
DIMM would no longer show as de-allocated after reboot
- The SM BUS
speed was set too high during an MCA, potentially leading to nested MCAs
- Corrected
Memory interleaving problem causing MCA in BL860c i2 with 8x16GB and 4x4GB
DIMMs
iLO
- An invalid
blade slot number displayed in the system event log generated when DIMM
quads were being de-allocated
- A rare
issue in which disconnecting Web SSL users from the Web interface on the
"Active Users" tab of the "Status Summary Page" could
disallow subsequent web connections. This could be remedied by resetting
iLO from the TUI.
- The iLO
reset command could be performed from the CLI (xd --r) or the GUI while a
FW update is in progress.
- Repeated
power on, hard power off cycles from OA CLI could create a failure to
power off.
- During a FW
upgrade, an iLO reset from the iLO GUI was reported to be successful at
resetting the iLO although the reset was not successful
- The iLO
command prompt could hang from invalid or missing parameters. This could
be remedied by resetting from iLO GUI, or using SSH exec "xd -r"
- Under very
particular conditions a conjoined system could display one or more of the
following symptoms:
- Fail to
gracefully shutdown
- CPU
temperatures may go unmonitored
- BLADE_FAILED_BOOT
may be logged in the SEL despite a normal boot
- iLO health
monitoring may inappropriately represent the LEDs in the Virtual Front
Panel and iLO GUI.
- iLO GUI
"system health" page may not load completely on a fully loaded
system.
- Issues with
command line LDAP usage
- A
mismatched CPU on one blade of a BL870c i2 or BL890c i2 may appear as a
mismatched CPU on each successive blade in the system
- A dropped
LAN connection during firmware update could lead to a hung firmware update
command or hung HP SUM. iLO now detects the dropped connection, and
reports the error.
- HP SUM
failed to successfully update BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 servers with mixed
FW
- Corrected
an issue where the iLO TUI PR command and "power & reset"
GUI page would fail if FW upgrade was in process.
Bundle Version : 21.08
ENHANCEMENTS:
- Memory
Patrol scrubber
- 16 GB DIMM
support
- EFI boot
options for directed LAN boot
- Multiple
connections to the live event viewer are now allowed
FIXES:
- Fixed an
issue where the “String buffer too small” error message could be displayed
during a network installation of the blade, eventually leading to a system
panic.
- Fixed an
issue where the MCA errdump log file might not have included MCA
information for all the blades.
- Improved
boot stability by fixing several potential occurrences of MCAs during
boot.
- Health
state does not return to 'OK' when temperature goes from Critical to OK.
In order to clear this error a system power cycle was required.
- iLO/Integrity
blade information is now shown correctly in OA.
- Fixed an
issue where some blades would not power on and generate a
POWERON_DENIED_BUSY_ERROR message upon enclosure power on.
- Fixed an
issue in which the DIMM Slot location for DIMM errors was being reported
as decimal numbers when it should have been reported as hexadecimal
numbers.
- An issue in
which the iLO Web GUI 'System Health Page' could inaccurately display a
Mezzanine card as 'not installed' has been fixed.
- An issue in
which LDAP did not expect the format user@domain.com has been fixed in the
iLO web GUI. The problem still exists in the iLO CLI. The work around is
to configure the LDAP server to use an alternative format.
- An issue in
which rapid execution of multiple power commands could cause CM menu to
become unresponsive has been fixed. A reset from the GUI could clear this
condition.
- A rare
issue in which an internal file system could crash causing defaulting of
iLO user configuration data, or potential iLO unresponsiveness has been
fixed.
- The System
Health Page in the iLO Web GUI now displays temperatures appropriately.
- An issue in
which vMedia connections could experience failures has been resolved.
- Thermal and
fan control behavior has been fixed.
- The DC
command now sets Asset Tag to default values properly.
- An issue
with an unexpected close of network sessions has been addressed.
- An issue in
which the VMEDIA connections event was logged without an IP address has
been fixed.
- IP address
is now logged appropriately in the IEL event for VMEDIA connections.
- Fixed an
issue in which the factory default password could have been set to Admin.
- Multiple
connections to the live event viewer are now allowed.
- An issue
with highlighting the wrong tab in the system health page on BL870c and
BL890c systems has been fixed.
- An issue
with the rare loss of an EFI configuration change has been addressed.
- An issue
where fatal events (i.e. non-recoverable temperatures) may not shut down
the system has been fixed.
- Fixed an
issue where the system was failing to boot due to temperatures being
misread and fans speeding up incorrectly while CPUs were still resetting.
- Fixed an
issue where fan speed would not increase after the FAN_BLOWOUT_ENTER event
was logged.
- Empty DIMM
slots are now properly reported in SMBIOS.
- Fixed an
issue where a DVD drive may be intermittently missing.
- BIOS
release date has been included in SMBIOS.
- Memory test
is now properly disabled with boottest mem off.
- vMedia
performance and reliability has been improved.
- Debugging
information for Traps/Interrupts has been improved.
- Error
handling/containment/logging has been improved.
- Improved
help text output for EFI commands.
