Note:
- If
p410i SAS IO version is 5.82, SUM cannot be used to update
it to a later version, an alternate method must be used (EFI
applications, ISO images, ...). All other IO components, included in this
bundle, can be updated using SUM.
- If
a system FW update is pending, it will be automatically activated at next
server power off, and server will only power on after the firmware
activation completes.
- To
verify if a system FW update is pending, run the iLO3 MP “SYSREV” command
and check if the Pending column shows any version for “System FW”.
- While
the server is powered off, you can monitor the progress of the system
firmware activation by running the iLO3 MP “FW” command.
DESCRIPTION:
This bundle contains the Smart Update Manager
(SUM) application with the firmware for HPE Integrity BL860c/BL870c/BL890c i4
and i6 Servers (System firmware (SFW), FPGA firmware, iLO-3 MP firmware &
Power Monitor, I/O and HDD firmware). This bundle can be used to update the
firmware using the SUM application.
WARNING:
·
After
January 31st, 2017, some browsers may stop accepting the existing
SHA1 based iLO SSL certificates. This may result in security warnings or may
even render iLO Web GUI inaccessible with the latest browsers.
Recommendation (for i4 servers):
o If the users have
imported a SSL certificate signed by trusted Certificate Authority, the users
can double check if the certificate uses a SHA2 based signature algorithm.
o If the iLO is using a
self-generated certificate, then users can use the iLO ‘SO’ command or iLO Web
GUI to generate a new SHA2 based SSL certificate for iLO post firmware upgrade.

FW version 1.67.04 or later is required to enable power savings for low
voltage DIMMs on BL8x0c i4 systems with newer system boards (version VP4
or later).
Note: You have a newer system board (version VP4 or later) if the
Front Panel HW version in SYSREV output is 5.00 (or later).

- It
is required to have appropriate SAS RAID firmware (version 6.42 or
later) and LAN-On-Motherboard (LOM) firmware (version 4.9.416.12 or
later) installed on your server along with this firmware bundle, available

in version 44.01 to be fully effective. To minimize the number of
reboots, it is recommended to install WBEMMgtBundle C.07.01 before
updating the system firmware to version 44.01 or later. WBEMMgtBundle may
be downloaded from http://software.hpe.com.
- iLO-3
MP(s) must be on the network (reachable from local system) and have static
IP or be configured with DHCP.
- An
http daemon, service or IDS (Intrusion Detection System) running in the
local system may interfere with SUM connecting to remote hosts, hence
these services may need to be disabled when SUM is running.
- SUM
version 7.6.5 or later is required for updating firmware on the i6
servers.

Please review all instructions and the

instructions completely before you begin. This can determine your success in
completing the firmware update.

Note: SUM now uses port 63001 by default for pulling FW files from the
server running SUM.
A. Extracting and Running SUM
- Download
the firmware bundle binary <filename>.exe or <filename>.tar.gz
in a new folder on your system.
- Extract
the bundle:
- Windows:
double click <filename>.exe then click “Extract”
- Linux:
gunzip <filename>.tar.gz; tar -xvf <filename>.tar
- The
above steps will extract the contents of the bundle in the new folder
where the bundle file is located. SUM and firmware components will reside
in the same folder.
- Execute
hpsum.bat (Windows) or hpsum.sh (Linux), located in the extracted folder,
by logging as a user with Administrator or root privilege. Executing
hpsum will bring up a graphical user interface of the Smart Update Manager
(SUM).
NOTE: SUM also provides a Command Line Interface (CLI) that allows user to
perform scripted installations in silent mode. For more information please
refer to the SUM User Guide or the "CLIHelp.txt" file in the extracted
folder.
B. Installing the Firmware Components
using SUM - Graphical User Mode
- Welcome Screen:
- Once started, a page displays with SUM
main content on it.
- For local updates on a Windows or Linux
node, use Localhost Guided Update:
- Select Localhost Guided Update from the
main content window
- Choose Interactive or Automatic mode
- Continue to step through the process of
completing the inventory of the baseline, inventory of the node and
deployment of updates to the localhost node.
- Note: You must have components in
the same directory as SUM in order for the baseline to be added during
Localhost Guided Update.
- For remote OA and iLO nodes
- Select Baselines from the main content
menu
- Verify that the current directory
baseline completes inventory
- Select Nodes from the main content menu
- Select 'Add Node' and enter IP address
and credentials for the Onboard Administrator, select the Baseline to be
assigned from the Baseline drop down, and click 'Add'
- After initial verification of credentials
is done, click Inventory from the Actions menu
- After Inventory is done on the OA, iLO
nodes will be added automatically and Inventory started on them.
- If a Virtual Connect node was found,
click on that node and enter credentials which will start inventory
- Once inventory is done on all OA, VC and
iLO nodes, click on the OA node and start Review/Deploy
- On the Review page, click to select the
associated nodes to update along with the OA. SUM will sequence the
updates as needed.
- Start the Deploy
- After Deploy is done, the logs for the
updates can be reviewed on each node page
- For remote Windows, Linux, HP-UX and
VMware nodes
- Select Nodes from the main content
- Verify that the current directory
baseline completes inventory
- Select Nodes from the main content menu
- Select 'Add Node' and enter IP address
and credentials for the remote node, select the Baseline to be assigned
from the Baseline drop down, and click 'Add'
- After initial verification of credentials
is done, click Inventory from the Actions menu
- After Inventory is done on the node,
click Review/Deploy from the Actions menu
- Review the updates to be applied and make
changes to installation options as needed
- Start Deploy
- After
Deploy is done, the logs for the updates can be viewed on the node page
Refer to the SUM User Guide and Release notes for more information.
COMPATIBILITY / INTEROPERABILITY:
WARNING: Do not disconnect power supply to HPE Integrity Server during the
firmware upgrade process or else the ROM will be corrupted and the system board
will need to be replaced.
DETERMINING CURRENT VERSION:
SUM displays the current version of the firmware
on the host. However user can also log in to the iLO-3 MP and use the following
procedure to find out the current firmware versions.
- Establish
a ssh/telnet session with the iLO-3 MP.
- Logon
to the iLO-3 MP using the Administrator password.
- Type
"CM" to enter the Command Menu.
- Type
"SYSREV" to display system revision information. The following
should be displayed if the current firmware is installed.

KNOWN FIRMWARE ISSUES:
SFW:
- DDDC
(Double Device Data Correction) will not be invoked for a second DRAM
failure in certain cases when excessive single bit memory errors are
observed. This will be indicated by a WBEM Event 7000. There is no impact
to customer applications however it is recommended to service the DIMM
upon seeing this event as the server will stop correcting single bits
memory errors if one more DRAM in the same rank fails.
iLO:
- In
the iLO 3 and OA Web GUI, when displaying screens with the nPar
configuration for i6 blades, the graphic shows correctly the blade name
(BL8x0c i6) but it shows the former HP logo instead of the new HPE logo.
This will be fixed in future releases.
- The
Firefox browser version 52 or later does not support launching of
Integrity iLO3 virtual media and Remote Serial Console Java applets.
Internet Explorer or Firefox version 51 (or earlier) have to be
used by the users to access these services.
- IRC
(Integrated Remote Console) is currently not supported for Google Chrome
browser. Please use Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers to access iLO if
IRC has to be accessed.
- In
enhanced security mode (when ‘Enforce AES/3DES’ option is enabled), TLS
1.0, TLS 1.1 and SHA1 are disabled by default. If the .NET framework or
the .NET ClickOnce application used in the client does not support TLS
1.2, Integrated Remote Console (IRC) application download will fail. It is
recommended to upgrade the Microsoft .NET framework. As an alternative,
iLO Text User Interface command ‘SO’ provides an option ‘Enable TLS1’ to
enable TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and SHA1 in enhanced security mode for browser
based access to iLO.
- UEFI
may fail to detect vMedia when UEFI boots with vMedia, both USB key and
DVD already connected.
Workaround: Issuing “reconnect -r” should display virtual devices
in the UEFI.
KNOWN I/O FIRMWARE ISSUES:
- Online
firmware update may fail for newer Qlogic 8 GB FC cards with the error:
"Error: ROM programming was unsuccessful".
Workaround: HPE recommends updating these FC cards using the EFI
bundle instead. The EFI bundle is available at http://www.hpe.com/support/hpesc;
enter the card product name, select the Operating System “OS Independent”,
then category "EFI".
Note: This issue exists in driver version FibrChanl-01 B.11.31.1503
or earlier and is fixed in driver version FibrChanl-01 B.11.31.1506.
KNOWN INSTALLATION ISSUES:
- SUM
fails on Windows due to McAfee firewalls. This is a known issue with
McAfee that McAfee firewalls block SUM traffic.
To resolve this issue, enable the port traffic associated with the SUM
application by performing the following steps:
- Bring
up McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention
- Windows
Vista: From the system tray, click the McAfee icon -> Manage Features
-> Host Intrusion Prevention
- Windows
7: From the system tray, right click Host Intrusion Prevention icon ->
Configure
- Select
the Activity Log tab. Notice the entry in the Message column similar to
the following: Blocked Incoming TCP from the HOST (x.x.x.x) during
execution of SUM.
- Select
the Firewall Policy tab.
- On
the bottom of the screen, click Add (Add new rule).
- Use
the following settings for the new firewall rules on your system.
Action: Permit
Protocol: IP - TCP
Direction: Incoming
Local Service: Single - http
Remote Service: Range From: 1024 - To: 65535
Address: Any Active
- Click
OK to ensure new firewall rules have been implemented.
- Restart
SUM.

system boards running iLO firmware version 1.68.08 or lower would log a
false fatal event CPU_VCCIO_CONFIG_FAILURE, causing the health LED to go
amber until the system is powered on. This is now fixed.
Note: If you do not observe the issue upon A/C power cycle or blade
insertion (no CPU_VCCIO_CONFIG_FAILURE event logged in the FPL and no amber
health LED before system power on), then your system is not affected.

server containing a PCI card which does not support PCI extended
capability would sometimes hang without any error message while
handling an MCA. This is now fixed.

- Fixed
an issue where the execution of the SetTime firmware call might cause
short system hangs of 12.75 seconds. Occasionally longer system hangs were
observed. The problem may cause affected servers running in a Serviceguard
cluster configuration with member timeout values slightly higher than the
delay to fail with a Serviceguard INIT due to expiration of the
Serviceguard safety timer. Note: Other third party clustering products are
affected by this issue too
- A
server with a controller configured in HBA mode may hang at boot time
without any error messages if a Hard Disk configured for RAID mode is put
into the server without previously removing the Hard Disk's RAID metadata.
This issue is now fixed.
Fixes in IO components in this bundle

LAN FW 4.2.401.2212 (from 4.1.450.14) for
LOM, NC551m, NC552m, NC553m:
- Critical: As the result of
auto negotiation failure, the connection between LOM and ProCurve 6120XG
may link up at 1Gbps instead of 10Gbps. This occurs intermittently (as
often as once in 10 retries) after executing “Reset Server blade #” from
the OA CLI.
Affected Products - All BE3 based Cards and LOMs. This is also seen with
10G passthrough Interconnect module.

i4 LOM NIC LED remains green even when the LINK is down on 1Gbps switch

LAN EFI 2.22.a1 (from 2.21.ac) for LOM, NC551m,
NC552m, NC553m:
- Critical: After power
cycling the entire C7000 enclosure, the HP Integrity BL8X0c i4 LOM
systematically fails to initialize with Catalyst Switch 3020 when Power
Restore is set to ON (PR = ON) and you enter to EFI shell before HP-UX
boot. You will see an error similar to: “ iocxgbe: The device at hardware
path 0/0/0/3/0/0/0 failed initialization (3821)” during HPUX boot. This
issue is only seen with HP BL8X0c i4 LOM
- Reset
to Defaults restores wrong power configuration. It shows an HP unsupported
option: “MultiChannel Option”. Reset to Default is issued from Device
Manager->Emulex 10G NIC-> R/r or Erase Configuration.
- HP
BL8x0c i4 LOM Product Name is truncated when displayed from NIC interface
using FCFUPDATE
SAS FW 6.22 for HP p410i and HP p711m:
- HP-UX
boot may fail with READ Error (elf_load) if boot volume is built on SAS
Logical Volume larger than 2TB
- On
rare occasions during power-up of an HP DS2200sb, the expander backplane
would be unresponsive and the attached Smart Array Controller would not be
allowed to discover attached drives.
- The
training of the DDR2 DIMMs has been improved in order to prevent the rare
occasions when 1783 POST error messages displayed and subsequently the
controller became unresponsive.
- Protection
has been added to prevent potential Smart Array controller hangs under
rare conditions when hot-adding hard drives.
- The
Open Connection timeout was reduced to 900 microseconds so that SAS
connections terminate gracefully and data transfer stalls are prevented.
- The
Smart Array controller would not connect to hard drives within 20ms under
heavy stress.
- Upon
power up, a Post message will now be displayed to the user to indicate
that a cache module is needed for the HP P711m controller.
- During
heavy I/O, when the HP P711m controller is connected to a HP P2000sa G3
MSA Array System via a HP 6Gb SAS Switch, a lockup issue (error code 0x15)
might occur.
